Elevation Church to move into a new Charlotte site. It used to be a brewery
Elevation Church is moving into a former brewery near uptown Charlotte.
The evangelical, non-denominational megachurch led by Steven Furtick will open at 2215 Thrift Road in Wesley Heights, the church has said in videos on Instagram.
Just a week ago, Elevation posted a video of the sign going up in front of the building saying, 'Things are moving quick at our new building.' In November, the Matthews-based church announced tours of the 'future home' building on Instagram.
The church has not said when it will open at the old brewery site, and officials did not respond Monday to requests for comment.
It's less than half a mile from the church's current uptown site at Station West at 919 Berryhill Road.
Midnight Mulligan Brewing, which opened in 2022 in the former Fleming Labs Building, quietly closed last year. The 14,457-square-foot one-story building was built in 1955 and renovated in 2020.
Charlotte real estate firm Summit Avenue Thrift Road LLC purchased the white stucco building on 2 acres in 2018 for $1.5 million, Mecklenburg County property records show. It was last appraised for $5.2 million, tax records show.
Elevation Church has 19 locations in North Carolina and South Carolina, Virginia, Florida and also in Ontario, Canada, according to the church's website. Nine are in the Charlotte region.
Furtick and guest speakers preach live from the Ballantyne campus at 1701 Elevation Point Drive. It's live-streamed to the church's other campuses, according to the website.
Elevation officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.
In 2023, Elevation ended its decades-long affiliation with the Southern Baptist Convention after the convention upheld decisions to expel churches with female pastors. Elevation's website lists Furtick's wife, Holly, as co-founder and pastor of the church. The couple founded the church 2006.
Elevation's revenue totaled over $101 million, according to the church's 2024 report. That's a 6.5% decrease from the prior year's total of $108 million.
Sunday in-person weekly attendance rose by about 300 people to 17,373 last year compared to 2023, according to the report. The church's weekly viewership rose slightly to over 1 million last year, according to the report.
Elevation Church gave nearly $12.2 million to outreach efforts last year, for a cumulative total of nearly $118.2 million over the past 19 years, according to the report.
