Sioux City Metros look for back-to-back titles as they prepare for USA Hockey National Tournament
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – After a long and successful season, the Sioux City Metros are packing their bags to head out to sunny Irvine, California to compete at the USA Hockey High School National Championships.
This is the second consecutive year the Metros have qualified for the National Tournament.
The high school hockey team has made its mark in the Midwest High School Hockey League taking back to back league titles; collecting five overall.
After winning the 2025 Iowa tate tournament title, the Metros hold the most state tournament titles in Midwest High School Hockey League history with nine.
After closing the last season with a National Championship Title, the Metros have been looking forward to getting back to the national stage.
'Our goal from day one was to make it to Nationals, State also, just knowing that we had a large group of guys last year that were playing this year as well and we all have good teamwork and good connections with each other, I knew that it was accomplishable,' Metros junior forward Noah Graham said.
'I feel like it was an advantage going into the State Championship, we've all played in the Finals, so you know you can have those nerves and kind of cool off and know what you're doing, so I think that will be an advantage for us,' Metros senior forward Tegan Doelman said.
'We have the skillset. You have to grind it out and you have to bring it every day, and if you don't, if you let one game slip up you lose that opportunity,' Metros head coach Jesse Monell said. 'That's a testament to what these kids have done. They grind it out for five months and at the end of the day they get rewarded with that National title bid, so it's fun to see them accomplish that.'
The Metros's first game will be March 26th against St. Joseph (IN).
