Dodgers 'Can't Wait' on Michael Conforto Rebound to Explore Trade for A's Breakout Star
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Los Angeles Dodgers ended their World Series rematch against the New York Yankees with a loss and are now preparing for a brutal stretch of the season. "And now one of baseball's most injury-plagued teams must strap back in for a four-game series against a first-place New York Mets team that has won seven of eight," as Bill Plaschke put it for the Los Angeles Times. "Followed by three games in hot St. Louis. Followed by three games in angry San Diego. Followed by three games against the reborn San Francisco Giants. Followed by four more games against damn San Diego." As the Dodgers look to overcome a series of persistent injuries, a return to the Fall Classic is far from guaranteed. And there are a few places they might consider upgrading their roster, even after a blockbuster winter of star additions. One of those offseason additions, Michael Conforto, hasn't panned out as hoped. And he could be reaching the end of his leash with the Dodgers. (Photo by) More Cunningham/Getty "The team is giving him a longer runway to find his swing considering the contract and his track record," Jason Fray wrote for Dodgers Nation. "At the same time, what if it never comes? L.A. can't wait on Conforto if his play continues to be this poor." Assessing the landscape for potential trade upgrades to replace Conforto and perhaps third baseman Max Muncy as well, Fray landed on the Athletics' Miguel Andujar, who is enjoying a breakout season in his final year of arbitration eligibility. "His play thus far in 2025 has been spectacular to the point that he could be named an AL All-Star," Fray noted. "In other words, he'd be an upgrade over Conforto (and likely Muncy) in virtually all categories. Andujar's ability to put the ball in play is a skill all teams search for come postseason time." Andujar is slashing .296/.328/.402 with 50 hits and just 23 strikeouts for the A's so far. And, given his contract situation and the team's likely contention window, it seems he could be on the trade block at midseason. If the Dodgers do want to boost the offense amid an epidemic of injuries on the team, they might look across the state for a trade involving Andujar. A's 3B/LF Miguel Andujar (oblique) likely heading to IL
June 2 - Athletics third baseman/left fielder Miguel Andujar sustained right oblique discomfort in Sunday's game and likely will be placed on the injured list, manager Mark Kotsay said after the 8-4 loss to the host Toronto Blue Jays. The team said Andujar, 30, was hurt while taking a swing and will have an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury. Andujar exited in the bottom of the fifth inning and was replaced at third base by Max Schuemann. Andujar has gotten on base on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth and later scored on Luis Urias' double. Andujar went 0-for-2 with one walk and the run. He is batting .296 with three home runs, 20 RBIs, a .328 on-base percentage and .402 slugging percentage in 46 games. A career .276 hitter, Andujar has 46 homers and 199 RBIs in 419 regular-season games with the New York Yankees (2017-22), Pittsburgh Pirates (2022-23) and Athletics (2024-present). He was second in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2018 when he batted .297 with 27 homers and 92 RBIs in 149 games with the Yankees. --Field Level Media

Game #53: Athletics vs. Phillies Game Thread
Time to snap the streak. Ths A's get another chance at the Phillies tonight hoping to snap this rough spell for the club. We'll see if they can do it but it's going to be a tall task against the team with the best record in baseball. Jeffrey Springs is set for the start tonight after getting pushed back one day. The lefty has turned his season around as he has a 1.46 ERA in four May starts. Can he keep that up against a tough Phillies team? On the bright side their biggest bats are left-handed so he should at least have that advantage going for him. Advertisement The starting nine: About what you would expect, outside of right field. That position will be manned by Miguel Andujar in what will be his second start at the position this year. The team will also see Max Schuemann man third base while Denzel Clarke mans his new home of center field again. Philly will trout out left-hander Cristopher Sanchez for tonight's start. With a 3.10 ERA he's only third best in the Phillies rotation but the club has its work cut out for them tonight against the third-year starter. Philly's starting lineup: That top of the lineup is as tough as any in the sport. Luckily two of those first three are left-handed hitters which should benefit Springs. Advertisement Who else feels like the streak dies tonight? Let's go A's! More from
