Suspect wanted for carjacking Los Angeles County sheriff's truck

Authorities are searching for a suspect who carjacked a Los Angeles County sheriff's truck in downtown L.A. Wednesday. LASD workers were conducting official duties near Spring and Temple Streets around 5 a.m. when a male suspect approached a deputy at the scene. A physical struggle ensued before the suspect successfully got into the vehicle and drove away. The deputy suffered minor injuries during the scuffle and was treated at a local hospital. The stolen truck was an all-purpose utility vehicle. Following an investigation, deputies later found the truck abandoned in the 14900 block of South Western Avenue in Gardena. Authorities confirmed that no department-issued firearms or weapons were stolen during the ordeal, however, four cell phones remain missing. The suspect is described as a Black male in his mid-20s. He stands about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs around 180 pounds. He has a shaved head and was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. 'The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, in coordination with other local law enforcement agencies, is actively investigating the matter,' authorities said. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call LASD's Major Crimes Bureau at 562-946-7893. The public can also call Det. Miguel Balderrama at 562-522-2707 or Det. Mark Yzabal at 562-522-5611.
