Midweek Update May 23 with Mike Bathke and Luke Hagen
May 23—MITCHELL — Mike Bathke was elected in June 2023 for first stint as a Mitchell city councilman.
Bathke, who says he speaks from the heart during meetings, has regularly voiced his opinions and thoughts on major topics the City of Mitchell Government is facing despite being a new face on the council.
After having his spot for nearly two years, Bathke says a lot of the decisions of the council are "deeply discussed" before meetings even begin.
"I've actually been asked to vote a certain way on something, and I literally walked away from the other person who asked me to do it," said Bathke, who represents Ward 3. "I just could not believe they were asking me to do it, and I was new to this. And I thought, 'This is not what I signed up for.' I have my own constitutes and all the people of Mitchell to speak for, and I didn't want somebody telling me how to vote when I knew it was wrong."
He encouraging more council members to get behind Mitchell Mayor Jordan Hanson, he's not in favor of a major Corn Palace renovation project and he thinks a new state prison would be beneficial to the Mitchell area. Hear from Bathke in this week's Midweek Update.
