Bomb threat at Rockdale High School deemed hoax
MILAM COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) – Authorities continue to investigate what turned out to be a bomb hoax on Tuesday morning.
The Milam County Sheriff's Office responded to Rockdale High School, located at 500 Childress Drive, around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday. This was following a phone call to the Rockdale Police Department regarding a bomb threat.
Out of an abundance of caution, Rockdale Independent School District administrators had students and staff sent to an alternate location. Deputies then conducted a thorough search of the entire campus using bomb-sniffing dogs.
The Sheriff's Office says this search turned up nothing, and it was deemed there was no credible threat to students or staff. The Texas Department of Public Safety began a trace of the number used by the caller, which was found to not be in the area.
The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene, which was cleared in about two hours. Students were then allowed to return to campus.
Milam County Sheriff Mike Clore is reminding the public that even though Tuesday, April 1 is April Fools' Day, this type of threat or hoax is a felony. Deputies, as well as state and federal partners, will continue to investigate and locate the person behind the hoax.
