Portage County man dies after being found unconscious Wednesday in town of Carson ditch
CARSON − A 68-year-old Portage County man is dead after being found unconscious in a ditch near his vehicle, according to authorities.
At 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, a caller reported a man who was unconscious near a vehicle on private property in the Portage County town of Carson. The caller said the man was lying in a ditch with standing water in it, according to a news release from Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas.
When deputies and other emergency personnel arrived on scene, they determined the town of Carson man had been driving his vehicle on a private trail on private property near the 2500 block of Elm Road North when it became stuck in a ditch, according to the news release. It appeared the man left the vehicle and fell into the ditch where a family member later found him. It is unknown how long he had been in the ditch prior to being found.
Emergency medical personnel provided medical assistance but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the news release. It does not appear the man had a crash, the release said.
