Friday night fire in South Peoria causes $20K in damages
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A fire in a detached garage in South Peoria caused approximately $20,000 in damages.
The Peoria Fire Department was called at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16, to the 2800 block of West Fremont Street to reports of a structure fire, Battalion Chief Mike Ralston said.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming out of a detached garage and quickly began fighting the fire, he said.
They were able to extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes, but the garage and all its contents were considered a total loss, Ralston said.
An investigator, as well as one of the department's arson dogs, Rocky, were called to the scene, but as of Sunday morning, the cause remains undetermined.
Ralston said damages are estimated at about $20,000.
No people were found inside the garage and no one was injured.
