Insider: Aaron Rodgers ‘Has Not Affirmatively Told' Steelers He'll Sign Contract
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Oct. 20, 2024. -- Ed Thompson / Steelers Now The Pittsburgh Steelers have been waiting on a decision from Aaron Rodgers for over two months, and according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the four-time league MVP quarterback hasn't made a verbal commitment to the organization. 'I have been told that he has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he's coming,' Pelissero said during an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show on Friday. '… There's all these signs that he's coming but he has not affirmatively said 'Hey, June 9 book me the ticket. I'm coming in and I'm going to join this team.' That has not happened as of this point.' Advertisement All signs point to Rodgers eventually signing with the Steelers, as the 41-year-old QB dropped a major hint earlier this month. During a concert on May 17 in Austin, Texas with his friend and artist, Mike Stud, Rodgers held a Q&A with the crowd. At one point during the session, a girl asked him if he would ever play for the Chicago Bears. Rodgers replied, 'No. But I believe there is a team that might play in Chicago this year, a road trip to Chicago. I love Chicago, though, way more than they love me. It's been a great relationship all one way.' The Steelers play the Bears in Week 12 at Soldier Field. The Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints also both play at Chicago this season, but they're not considered clear-cut favorites to land Rodgers like the Steelers. Rodgers even shut down the idea of playing for the Saints. Advertisement Rodgers was later asked if he would sign with the Steelers, and he gave a rather ambiguous answer. 'You never know,' Rodgers said. The two discussed a wide-range of topics, but nothing football-related. Rodgers revealed a possible reason for his delay. 'I've figured it out the last year when I've been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,' Rodgers said on the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast. That lines up with what the 41-year-old said on the Pat McAfee Show in April. 'I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention,' he said. 'I have personal commitments I have made. I have a couple of people in my inner, inner circle who are battling some difficult stuff. So, I have a lot of things that are taking my attention.' Advertisement Steelers president Art Rooney II said at the NFL owners meetings in March that the team will 'not wait forever' on Rodgers. Over two months have passed, and Rodgers has still not signed with the Steelers. Rooney's stance hasn't changed. He's wiling to wait things out. 'A little while longer. I'll say the same thing,' Rooney said on his way out of last week's owners meetings, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Aaron Rodgers brutally shuts down NFL fan after plea to help make their team 'great again'
Free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has brutally shut down a request from a New Orleans Saints fan hoping he would make their team 'great again' by saying he will never play for them. The 41-year-old attended a concert with rapper Mike Stud performing, with the duo taking audience questions. A fan wearing red stepped up to the mic and asked her question to Rodgers about her beloved Saints. 'Would you ever consider playing for the Saints and making us great again?' she said. 'No! No, I've played there a couple times,' Rodgers said. 'But no, the answer is no. I'm too old. I don't want to live in Louisiana.' Incumbent Saints starter Derek Carr shockingly retired from football this month, citing a shoulder injury, leaving a vacancy for an experienced quarterback in New Orleans. 🚨BREAKING: 4x #NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers says that he will never play for the New Orleans #Saints. Q: 'Would you ever consider playing for the Saints?' Aaron: 'NO…. NO.' DAMN. (Via Mike Stud) — MLFootball (@_MLFootball) May 24, 2025 New Orleans now does not have a quarterback on its roster with an NFL victory. Rookie Tyler Shough was drafted by the team last month, while Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler are a combined 0-7 in the league. Should the Saints go after the 41-year-old free agent, who is also a four-time NFL MVP, they would now have 156 NFL wins in their quarterback room. Rodgers was not swept up in the free-agency frenzy that began in March, with the Pittsburgh Steelers looking to be his best option left, with the team yet to commit to him. There will be talk of elevating Shough and giving him a chance from day one to be the starter. Shough would be in a unique position, as New Orleans are thought to be good enough to win the NFC South, which is not typical for a rookie quarterback to be entering such a plum situation.

Aaron Rodgers all but confirms Steelers signing with hilarious shot at Bears
Aaron Rodgers just dropped a Steelers-sized bombshell — all but confirming a signing with Pittsburgh. At a Mike Stud concert, Rodgers answered questions from those in attendance. In the Q/A styled video, Mia's Brothers On The Hot Seat: Mike & Aaron Rodgers, one young girl asked if Rodgers would ever play for the Chicago Bears — and his hilarious response all but confirmed a Steelers signing: Advertisement 'No, but I believe there's a team that might play in Chicago — for a road trip, I don't know. I love Chicago though — way more than they love me. It's been a great relationship.' Rodgers is, of course, referencing his complete domination of the Bears — boasting an impressive 24-5 record over Chicago — where the Steelers will head in Week 12. While many will be quick to point out that the Vikings and Saints play the Bears in Chicago during the 2025 season, both of these teams have been seemingly debunked as landing spots for the four-time MVP. Jeff Duncan of claimed that Rodgers 'never really was a consideration for the Saints,' and the Vikings have made it clear they're moving forward with second-year QB J.J. McCarthy. With the first of the Steelers' OTAs less than five days away — is Rodgers ready to pull back the curtain on his Steelers future? Aaron Rodgers says he won't play for Saints — Steelers likely only option remaining
Whether Saints fans love him or hate him, Aaron Rodgers will not play for New Orleans in 2025. Heading into free agency, Rodgers' big-three landing spots were speculated to be the Steelers, Vikings, and Giants — and Pittsburgh was seemingly the last one standing, as both NFC teams desired to go in a different direction at QB. Advertisement After Derek Carr's retirement, the Saints were left scratching their heads at who their next signal caller would be — with fans and analysts alike predicting Rodgers would be a perfect fit. Rodgers, however, must have not gotten the memo and shot down a Saints signing in 2025. Making an appearance at a Mike Stud concert in Texas this past weekend, Rodgers also participated in a Q&A that was uploaded on Friday, titled Mia's Brothers On The Hot Seat: Mike & Aaron Rodgers. One fan asked the future Hall of Fame QB if he'd consider playing with the Saints, and this was Rodgers' response: "No," Rodgers laughed off. "That's the answer. No. I played there a couple times — but no, the answer is no. I'm too old, I don't want to live in Louisiana." At the same Q&A, Rodgers all but confirmed he'd play for the Steelers by referencing playing against the Bears in an away game — one that Pittsburgh will find itself in on Week 12. Advertisement Retirement and signing with the Steelers seem like Rodgers' only two options left — after the Saints now join the Vikings and Giants as teams he likely won't play for in 2025.
