Weekend crash critically injures 2 Norfolk teens
NORFOLK, Neb. (KCAU) — A weekend crash near Norfolk left two teens in critical condition, the Stanton County Sheriff's Office said.
According to a release from the Stanton County Sheriff's Office, they received a notification from a cell phone's automatic accident detection system, and the dispatcher was able to hear screaming in the notification.
Officials responded to 843rd Road, about 2.5 miles east of Norfolk. When officials arrived at the scene, they found a 15-year-old who had been ejected from a crashed SUV and a 16-year-old who had been driving the vehicle injured inside the car.
Officials said that their investigation uncovered that the SUV had been headed east when it left the roadway and went airborne, crashing into a power pole and rolling into a grove.

Police said they believe the crash was caused by speed and inexperience. The driver was wearing a seatbelt while the passenger was not.
The passenger who had been ejected was flown to Omaha to be treated for her injuries, and the driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said, 'Seatbelts save lives and several recent accidents in Stanton County confirm that, always use restraints for your own safety and remember it is the law.'
