NBA 'bad guy' Miles Bridges enjoys emotional reunion with his daughter after desperate plea for help

Charlotte Hornets star Miles Bridges had the chance to see his young daughter graduate from preschool on Wednesday - just hours after complaining that he was barred from seeing his children. Bridges posted a series of troubling messages on Instagram earlier this week, claiming the mother of his children had not let him see them for more than a month. 'It should never be this hard to be a father,' the 27-year-old wrote. 'Enough is enough.' Those messages were later deleted and, on Wednesday morning, the Hornets forward uploaded a couple of photos to his Instagram story showing him with his five-year-old daughter, Ayla Marie. 'Congrats to my babygirl!' Graduated from Preschool today,' he wrote alongside a picture from the ceremony to celebrate the class of 2025. Bridges sat out all of the 2022-23 NBA season as a result of a domestic violence case from June 2022. He was accused of assaulting the mother of his children in front of them in Los Angeles. Last year, meanwhile, criminal charges - related to a separate incident that resulted in damage to a vehicle - were dropped due to 'insufficient evidence'. He had been facing three charges for an alleged violation of a domestic violence protection order, misdemeanor child abuse and injury to personal property. Earlier this week, Bridges wrote on Instagram that he has 'been asking to be with my kids since the season ended and I've been denied/ignored... for no reason just because I've moved on.' Back in February, the NBA star's new girlfriend Shara Bowden revealed they are expecting twins. 'In y'all eyes I'm always gone (sic) be the bad guy. But I'm genuinely asking what should I do? I don't wanna be falsely accused of anything again. I just want to be a father to my children and the mother of my kids won't let me,' Bridges continued. 'I need help please that's all I'm asking for... yes I have lawyers but I'm not trying (to) go months without seeing my kids before something is figured out. My youngest son's bday is May 24 and I don't think she's gonna let me see him.' Back in November 2022, Bridges pleaded no contest to one felony count of injuring a child´s parent, agreeing to do so in exchange for three years of probation and no jail time. The 25-year-old Bridges was also ordered to complete 52 weeks of parenting classes, 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling and 100 hours of community service as part of the agreement. Before the plea, Bridges had been facing three felony charges - the one he pleaded no contest to, and two others of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death - and up to 11 years in prison. Bridges missed the first 10 games of this season as part of a league-imposed suspension. He was officially suspended 30 games, with the NBA deeming 20 games of his ban had already been served. Last year, meanwhile, the criminal charges were dropped because the state said in a Charlotte Mecklenburg County Court filing that prosecutors would 'not be successful at trial.' The woman who accused Bridges gave conflicting stories of what happened, authorities said. 'Given the lack of sufficient evidence necessary to overcome the inconsistency of these accounts, the state would not be successful at trial,' the court documents signed by prosecutor Samantha Pendergrass said.

Struggling Kings nearing must-win territory at Hornets

The Sacramento Kings were supposed to boost their playoff stock during this part of their six-game road trip. But with no dividends to date, they certainly need to get things right when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night. The Kings (36-40) have lost three games in a row and seven of their last eight games, which puts their Western Conference postseason prospects in peril. "The intensity has to ratchet up," Kings interim coach Doug Christie said. "Those are things that you have to bring. ... You have to play at a certain intensity level. You have to play at that level against teams that are at the bottom of this league." The Hornets (19-57) have dropped six of their last seven games, including a 119-105 decision Wednesday night at Indiana. In each of Charlotte's last eight losses, the team hasn't exceeded 106 points. Miles Bridges has been Charlotte's top scorer in three straight games, though that came with just 18 points against the Pacers. Friday's game begins a three-game homestand for the Hornets, who'll then play their final three games on the road. Sacramento fell to a team with a worse record than Charlotte in Wednesday night's 116-111 loss at Washington, so an upgrade will be necessary in Charlotte. "It's where you think you are going to just coast through a game (is when trouble strikes)," Christie said. The urgency exists for Friday night's game because the next stops for the Kings are at Cleveland and Detroit. Veteran forward DeMar DeRozan has been Sacramento's leading scorer in the past three games and five times in the last seven games. He had 29 points in the Washington game, which pushed his scoring average to a team-best 22.2 points per game. The Hornets aren't concerned about playoffs, but they still want to accomplish things during the last couple of weeks of the season. "It's always important, every time you step on the floor, to play the right way," said Charlotte guard Seth Curry. "We don't want to waste these last few games. We want to go out there and keep playing well as a team, getting better, and keep putting good film out there that we can build on." Charlotte could be without a couple of players versus the Kings. At Indiana, Damion Baugh tumbled to the floor and was helped off the court. Josh Green started and played eight minutes before being ruled out for the remainder of the game due to his ailing left shoulder. The Hornets already were without Taj Gibson (ill) and Nick Smith Jr. (ankle). The Kings blasted Charlotte 130-88 Feb. 24 at home with Zach LaVine pumping in 42 points in just 31 minutes. Since that game, Sacramento hasn't had a player score more than 36 points in a game. Bridges had 23 points that night to lead the Hornets. Center Mark Williams, who owns double-doubles in the past three games for Charlotte, didn't play in the earlier matchup with the Kings. Williams is shooting 61.5 percent from the field. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved

Hornets rally past reeling Heat 105-102

Miles Bridges scored 35 points, Mark Williams added 24 points and 10 rebounds and the Charlotte Hornets got their first divisional win of the season by beating the reeling Miami Heat 105-102 on Monday night. It was the third time in March alone that Miami lost a game after leading by at least 17 points — all those collapses coming at home. The Heat led New York by 19 on March 2, led Chicago by 17 on Saturday and led the Hornets by 17 in the first half. Bam Adebayo finished with 23 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists for the Heat, and Tyler Herro finished with 21 for Miami — which has lost four straight and five of six. LaMelo Ball had 15 points and 10 assists for Charlotte, which was 22 for 23 from the foul line. Miami was 14 for 20 at the line. Hornets: Charlotte had been 0-11 against Southeast Division opponents this season. No team since the current format of four or more divisions in 1970-71, has gone winless within its own division over a full season. Heat: Rookie center Kel'el Ware got meaningful fourth-quarter minutes for only the second time in Miami's last six games. "He'll definitely get his opportunities moving forward," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "Look, I get it. ... If you lose games, the coach puts himself out there to be second-guessed. There's no question about it." Bridges made a 3-pointer with 1:15 left for the lead, then added another on the next Charlotte possession to put the Hornets ahead for good. Charlotte had scoring runs of 14-0 in the third quarter and 10-0 in the fourth. Charlotte makes its second stop on a four-game trip Wednesday in Atlanta. Miami plays the fourth game in a five-game homestand Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
