A Guide to the UK's Chagos Deal With Mauritius
More than two centuries of British control over the Chagos islands are coming to an end after the UK government agreed to cede ownership of the Indian Ocean archipelago to Mauritius and pay an annual fee to continue operating a military base there. Terms were agreed in October 2024, but then power changed hands in Mauritius and the new premier, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, questioned the benefits of the agreement. Six months of further negotiations ensued before a revised deal was struck. Fears that the reelection of US President Donald Trump could derail the handover never materialized.

Power supply restored to parts of Centurion after substation explosion
Power supply restored to parts of Centurion after substation explosion While several areas in Centurion remain in the dark after a substation explosion on May 19, the Tshwane metro has managed to restore supply to some areas. The incident, which occurred around 05:50 on Monday, involved the explosion of Transformer 1A at the Zwartkop Substation, leading to a power outage across multiple areas. MMC for Utility Services Frans Boshielo confirmed that the explosion also caused a trip on the Lyttelton Line 1 at Njala, initially cutting off Wingate, Aries, and De Hoewes substations' supply. Boshielo said that the supply has since been successfully restored to those three areas. However, residents in Zwartkop, Valhalla, parts of Claudius, Clubview, the Military Base in Thaba Tshwane, and the Zwartkop Airbase remain without electricity. He said the metro's Energy and Electricity Department continues with restoration efforts in these areas. 'The teams are working tirelessly to restore supply to all affected consumers as swiftly and safely as possible,' he said. The current work to restore power to the affected areas is extensive. Boshielo said the process involves testing of Transformer 2B, oil sample analysis sent to a laboratory, and the replacement of damaged infrastructure, including 630mm high-tension cables and crucial control cables required for the substation's protection grading. 'Full transformer protection tests are also being carried out to ensure operational safety of the transformer and proper protection grading of the substation.' He noted that repairs on the Lyttelton/Kwagga Overhead Line 1, which was also damaged by fire, are scheduled to begin on May 20. 'I would like to extend our appreciation to all residents and businesses for their patience, co-operation, and understanding during this time,' said Boshielo. He added that the metro team will provide updates every day at 19:00. Tshwane spokesperson Selby Bokaba said that the destruction of the 630mm high-tension cables and essential control cables has significantly complicated the repair efforts. 'These control cables are essential for the protection of the substation,' said Bokaba. He emphasised that the fire damage to the Lyttelton/Kwagga Overhead Line 1 necessitated the disconnection of the line by the sub-transmission team. Bokaba provided a cautiously optimistic outlook, stating that overnight work yielded positive results. 'Transformer 2B test results have tested positive and are ready to be used,' he said. He stated that the next step in the process will involve replacing the stolen single cores and multicores for Transformer 2B. Despite these advances, he stressed that the estimated time for full power restoration will only be communicated once the majority of the repair work is completed. Pence: Trump's Qatar jet is ‘inconsistent with our security'
Former Vice President Pence said during a recent interview that President Trump accepting a luxury jet from the Qatari government is 'inconsistent' with the United States' 'security' and that he should turn down the gift. 'Well, I think first we got to remember who Qatar is. We've got a military base there. I have members of our immediate family that have deployed to the region, but Qatar has a long history of playing both sides. They support Hamas. They supported al-Qaeda. Qatar has actually financed pro-Hamas protests on American campuses across the United States. And so the very idea that we would accept an Air Force One from Qatar, I think is inconsistent with our security, with our intelligence needs,' Pence said during his appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press.' 'And my hope is the president reconsiders it,' Pence told anchor Kristen Welker, adding that if Qatar wants to give a gift to the U.S., they 'ought to take that $400 million and plow it into infrastructure on their military base.' Trump has strongly defended his decision to accept the Boeing 747-8, which is estimated to be worth $400 million, and has shot down the criticism and concerns raised by congressional lawmakers in both parties. 'I just want to say, it was a radical left story,' Trump said in an interview with Fox News' Bret Baier. 'The people here, to show you how crazy it is, they would like me to pay a billion dollars.' The jet is being delivered to the Department of Defense to eventually replace Air Force One, which has been in service for over three decades. The plane would later be transferred to Trump presidential library. 'This goes to the United States Air Force for whoever is president, and at some point, it'll be like Ronald Reagan. It'll be decommissioned, because they won't want it,' Trump told Baier. 'We need a plane for a couple of years before we get the other ones, because Boeing is very late,' the president added. 'They should be able to knock them off in no time.' Pence said that Trump should turn down the gift, pointing to the potential for 'intelligence gathering,' along with 'very real constitutional issues.' 'The Constitution prohibits public officials from accepting a present, in the words of the Constitution, a present from a foreign state,' Pence told Welker. 'Now, they may have some basis through chain of title, through avoiding that. But, I think it's just a bad idea. And my hope is the president will think better of it.' Bunker 11, amidst all the other bunkers, is the trickiest. It requires the players to solve the Russian phone puzzle. Best strategies for looting bunkers Remember, not all the bunkers are the same, and therefore, your speed is crucial, especially as they attract the squads faster. If you plan to go for the coded bunkers, make sure to memorize the digits beforehand. For the keycard bunkers, give priority to the high-loot areas like Military bases or Prisons to increase the drop chances. Note: The Quarry location of Bunker 6 is quite often overlooked. So, do not skip it. Also, give priority to Bunker 7/8 for the UAVs or the cash for some mid-game advantages. Bunker 11's quest is best attempted in the Plunder or with the squad. So, listen to the Russian number cues on the phone. Next, input the sequence at the bunker. The rewards here include the Specialist Perks, but the real price remains the uncontested loot inside. Also, while not all the codes remain available as of now, the bunkers remain the top-tier loot spots. Keep an eye out for updates as more combinations are discovered.
