Truck from local company hijacked near Carletonville
Motorists and truck drivers are urged to be vigilant after several hijackings in the area recently.
The truck from a well-known Carletonville business was hijacked on the afternoon of April 24.
The driver (38) of an eight-ton truck belonging to Milsons in Carletonville was driving on the P111 toward Carletonville at 16:00.
The truck was loaded with clothes, blankets, and appliances.
As he drove past the turn-off to West Driefontein, the driver suddenly saw a red bakkie behind him. The bakkie bumped the truck from behind, and the driver was forced to stop.
He just came to a standstill when a masked man appeared at his side and pointed a firearm at him.
The hijacker forced the driver to get into the bakkie with two of his accomplices, who also wore balaclavas. They forced the driver to hand over his bank card and PIN to them and dropped him off on the side of the Bank Road.
They fled with the Nissan UD 8-ton truck.
The driver later saw that they had withdrawn money from his bank account.
The police in Carletonville are investigating a hijacking.
