Mobile Infirmary introduces procedure to treat heart valves

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — An Infirmary Health doctor is the first person to perform a TriClip G4 procedure in Mobile successfully and one of the first to perform it in the region, has learned. Local Mobile sorority visits Selma for 'Bloody Sunday' 60th Anniversary march Dr. Mina Jacob, an interventional and structural cardiologist, performed the minimally invasive surgery to treat patients with tricuspid regurgitation. According to an Infirmary Health news release, patients with TR experience symptoms of fatigue, swelling, and shortness of breath due to blood leaking backward into the heart. 'The tricuspid valve is sometimes referred to as 'the forgotten valve' because historically, it hasreceived less attention compared to the mitral and aortic valves,' said Dr. Jacob. 'Untilrecently, tricuspid regurgitation could only be treated surgically with open-heart surgery.' The release said the TriClip G4 procedure allows doctors to repair the valve by inserting a device through a vein in the leg and guiding it through the vein to the faulty valve, where it will clip together sections of the valve, helping to restore blood flow. Saraland Elementary's Dr. Stan Stokley wins national principal award 'Our structural heart team coordinated and worked hard together to bring this new technologyto Mobile Infirmary,' Dr. Jacob said. 'We are proud to be leading the way in expanding treatment options for patients with tricuspid regurgitation.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
