Today sees the beginning of Khamaseen winds in Egypt: Climate center warns
Sand Storm to hit the county - file CAIRO - 29 April 2025: Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stated on Tuesday that, as part of a review of climate forecast model updates at the Climate Change Information Center and forecasts from the Meteorological Authority, the weather fluctuations have been confirmed. Fahim added that starting Tuesday, a western Khamaseen low pressure wind will hit the country, coinciding with an upper rain trough over the western regions of the country (Salloum, Siwa, and Marsa Matrouh). This low pressure will bring high wind speeds and rain concentrated in the far west of the country, extending as the day progresses toward the rest of Marsa Matrouh, bringing moderate rain and high winds. Temperatures on Tuesday will be spring-like and warm. Fahim explained that the Khamaseen low pressure wind will extend inland as of Wednesday morning, with the most severe wind gusts reaching storm-level winds laden with sand and dust. Intermittent wind gusts will exceed 65-80 km/h in scattered areas of the country, with thunderstorms and snow on the north coast (most concentrated in Salloum and western Marsa Matrouh) and moderate winds in the northern Delta. There are also intermittent, strong winds laden with sand and dust, reaching 60-70 km/h in Cairo, Lower Egypt, northern Upper Egypt, and even Sohag in the south. Intermittent, strong winds laden with sand and dust, reaching 70-75 km/h in the Eastern Desert (east of Beni Suef and Minya, Saff, New Cairo, the Administrative Capital, Ismailia Desert Road, Suez Road, Sokhna Road, areas south of Sokhna, Suez, Ismailia, and most areas of Sinai, especially east of the Canal and central and southern Sinai).

Egypt Achieves Sugar Self-Sufficiency at Over 3 Million Tonnes in 2025
The Ministry of Agriculture attributes this milestone to increased sugar beet cultivation and improved crop pricing. Apr 22, 2025 Egypt has achieved full self-sufficiency in sugar production for 2025, with total output exceeding 3 million tonnes, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation. Officials confirmed that beginning in 2026, Egypt will no longer rely on sugar imports to meet domestic demand. This development comes as a result of expanded sugar crop cultivation, particularly sugar beets. The cultivated area for beets rose from 600,000 feddans in 2023 to more than 780,000 feddans in 2025. Farmers were further incentivised by increased purchase prices, with rates reaching EGP 2,500 per tonne for sugar cane and EGP 3,000 per tonne for sugar beets. This year's harvest included approximately 620,000 tonnes of sugar extracted from sugar cane and around 2.5 million tonnes from sugar beets. The production figures represent a significant increase compared to previous years, positioning Egypt as self-reliant in one of its key food staples for the first time in decades. Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture stated that the achievement will help ease pressure on Egypt's foreign currency reserves by eliminating the need for sugar imports. It is also expected to improve food security and stabilise prices in the local market. The ministry attributed the milestone to several government-supported agricultural initiatives, including updated cultivation guidance and incentive programmes aimed at increasing the production of strategic crops such as sugar.

Arab Finance: Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk signed a cooperation protocol with QNB Egypt to finance 40 agricultural projects in South Sinai, marking the first phase of broader development plans for the region, as per a statement. The agreement is part of joint efforts to promote sustainable agricultural development in Sinai. Thursday marks peak of heat wave; Cairo records highs of 36°C
Heat wave - file CAIRO - 27 March 2025: Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, head of the Climate Information Center at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, said that today marks the peak of the early summer wave, with temperatures rising across the country without exception. Daytime temperatures will reach 35-36 degrees Celsius. Fahim added that there will be a significant rise in nighttime temperatures, ranging from 15-20 degrees Celsius, and a significant temperature difference between night and day. The rise in temperature will be accompanied by hot, dust-raising southerly and southwesterly winds, ranging from light to moderate. Forecasts indicate that the northwestern coasts will witness a drop in temperatures tomorrow, Friday, due to the influence of moderate air masses, whose impact will extend to the rest of the country next Saturday. Temperatures will drop by about 6 degrees, with highs in Cairo ranging between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius. It is noteworthy that the vernal equinox occurred last Thursday, officially announcing the beginning of spring on March 20th. It lasts for 92 days, 17 hours and 35 minutes, as the sun's rays are perpendicular to the equator, so the amount of solar radiation falling on both hemispheres of the Earth (the northern and southern) is equal, resulting in equal number of day and night hours, each of which is approximately 12 hours.
