Prime minister urges religious institutions to promote values of inclusion, balance

Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday pays a visit to the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs (Petra photo) AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday reiterated Jordan's steadfast position, under Hashemite leadership and through its people, as a beacon of moderation, tolerance and balance. During a visit to the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the prime minister underscored the ministry's pivotal role in advancing these values, which he described as 'the essence of our Islamic faith and a fundamental part of our national identity that rejects extremism, fanaticism, isolation, and exclusion.' In a briefing on preparations for the upcoming Hajj season, Hassan emphasised the importance of instilling such principles in future generations, according to a Prime Ministry statement. 'Our children must grow up with faith in Allah, devotion to our religion, love for the homeland, and respect for others. These values should be expressed through meaningful actions and a way of life rooted in belief in God, loyalty to His Majesty the King, and a strong sense of national belonging,' he said. The prime minister also commended the Ministry's efforts in managing mosques, Qur'an memorisation centres, Islamic endowments, religious guidance, and social protection initiatives. He also applauded its role in safeguarding Al Aqsa Mosque, the Dome of the Rock, and the entire Al Haram Al Sharif compound through the Jerusalem Awqaf Department, under the Hashemite custodianship. 'We are facing grave challenges from Israeli extremism and the escalating violations in Jerusalem,' he said, affirming Jordan's frontline role in defending the city against attempts to Judaise it and erase its Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity. 'This is our historical responsibility under the Hashemite custodianship and the duty of every member of the Jerusalem Awqaf Department who confronts aggression at Al Haram Al Sharif,' he added. The Premier also extended deep appreciation to the employees of the Jerusalem Awqaf Department for their dedication to Al Aqsa Mosque and other Islamic holy sites. He noted that their efforts reflect Jordan's broader role, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, in preserving Jerusalem's Arab, Islamic, and Christian identity and in supporting Palestinian resilience. Regarding charitable initiatives, Hassan said Jordan continues to serve as a model of national solidarity and unity, with ample avenues for giving, including support for the elderly, orphans, and the development of educational, healthcare, and social institutions. He also highlighted the significant grassroots contributions by citizens to community service and the establishment of educational and social infrastructure across the country. Turning to national development, the prime minister reiterated the importance of the Comprehensive Modernisation Vision, which seeks to enhance the state's economic, political, administrative, and social capacities. 'All state institutions are obligated to work toward implementing this national project. We are all partners in this effort, and its success depends on the strength of our society and its institutions,' he said. Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Khalayleh announced that Jordanian pilgrims will begin departing for the holy sites on May 23. He affirmed the Ministry's full commitment to ensuring pilgrims receive the necessary support and care to perform their religious rituals with ease, from their departure from the Kingdom until their return.

Ministry of Awqaf: Renovation of 15 Homes for Poor Families Since the Beginning of the Year - Jordan News

Ministry of Awqaf: Renovation of 15 Homes for Poor Families Since the Beginning of the Year The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs confirmed that the Zakat Fund has been supporting poor families through a house renovation and maintenance project, aimed at providing safe housing and a dignified life. اضافة اعلان The Director-General of the Zakat Fund stated that cases in need are studied, and a budget is allocated for the repair of homes, including building, electricity, or water works. In a press statement, Samirat added that the project depends on the donations of zakat payers and philanthropists, reflecting the spirit of community solidarity and contributing to achieving social justice. He clarified that the Zakat Fund has a permanent program for the maintenance and renovation of homes for needy families, implemented in all Jordanian governorates. The program aims to improve living conditions through social field studies to identify homes in need of renovation or maintenance. Regarding the criteria for selecting beneficiary families, Samirat pointed out that the Zakat Fund relies on precise criteria to ensure that support reaches those who need it most. These criteria include that the beneficiary must be a Jordanian citizen with a national ID, the family income should not exceed 400 dinars, the land and building must be in the beneficiary's name with a separate title deed, and the building should be a ground floor or independent unit. As for the application process, Samirat explained that families wishing to benefit from renovation or maintenance services can visit the Zakat Fund in the relevant Awqaf Directorate and submit a formal request. A desk study is then conducted to ensure that the conditions are met, followed by a field visit by the technical committee to assess the necessary maintenance works. Recommendations are then submitted to the Zakat Fund's Board of Directors for approval and further procedures. Regarding funding sources, he clarified that renovation projects are fully funded from the donations in the Zakat Fund, and no endowment funds are used for these projects. The Director-General of the Zakat Fund noted that since the beginning of the year, 15 homes have been renovated, and emphasized that the fund has a clear vision for expanding these projects to cover all regions of the Kingdom. Samirat pointed out that one of the main challenges facing the implementation of these projects is the lack of funding. This challenge is being addressed through cooperation with companies and institutions in the private sector, in addition to zakat payers, philanthropists, and donors, to enhance the ability to expand the renovation and maintenance projects. Kuwait introduces shorter prayer time to reduce power consumption

Listen to article Kuwait's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has introduced new guidelines to mosques across the country to reduce electricity consumption amid rising demand. The measures, announced by the Mosques Department in Hawalli Governorate, include shortening prayer durations, restricting access to prayer halls, and limiting the use of air conditioning. The new directives were issued following a request from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy. The guidelines are part of a larger energy-saving initiative, which will also see scheduled power cuts at mosques across Kuwait's six governorates starting this week. Under the new rules, mosques are instructed to close their main indoor prayer halls for all five daily prayers. Worshippers will instead perform prayers in outdoor courtyards. Indoor prayer halls will only be open for Friday prayers, with air conditioning set to 22°C on automatic mode from Thursday evening until the end of Friday. For daily prayers, outdoor areas will be used, and air conditioning, if necessary, must be set to 25°C on automatic mode. Women's prayer sections will be closed in most mosques, with exceptions for mosques hosting religious lectures or classes. In such cases, air conditioning should also be set to 25°C, and the sections must be closed immediately after the sessions. The ministry has also instructed imams to shorten the interval between the call to prayer (adhan) and the start of the prayer (iqama), particularly for the Dhuhr and Asr prayers. The duration of the prayers themselves should also be reduced. Additionally, a schedule of power cuts has been outlined, including a blackout from 30 minutes after the Dhuhr prayer until 15 minutes before the Asr prayer, and another from 30 minutes after the Asr prayer until 5 p.m.

Kuwait orders shorter prayer time and mosque restrictions to cut electricity use

Dubai: Kuwait's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has issued new directives to mosques across the country, instructing them to shorten prayer durations, restrict access to prayer halls, and limit air conditioning usage. The measures, announced by the Mosques Department in Hawalli Governorate, aim to reduce electricity consumption amid surging demand. A circular detailing the steps was distributed to imams and muezzins following a request from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy. The move is part of a broader energy-saving initiative, which includes scheduled power cuts at mosques across Kuwait's six governorates starting this week. Under the new rules, mosques are instructed to close the main indoor prayer halls for all five daily prayers. Worshippers are to perform prayers in outdoor courtyards instead. Indoor prayer areas will only be opened for Friday prayers, with air conditioning set to 22°C on automatic mode from Thursday evening until the end of Friday's service. For daily prayers, outdoor areas will be used, and any air conditioning must be maintained at 25°C on auto mode. Women's prayer sections are to be closed in most mosques, except in those hosting religious lectures or classes. In such cases, air conditioning should also be set to 25°C, and the sections must be closed immediately after the sessions end. In addition to spatial restrictions, the directive includes changes to the timing and length of prayers. Imams have been instructed to shorten the interval between the call to prayer (adhan) and the start of prayer (iqama), especially for the noon (Dhuhr) and afternoon (Asr) prayers. The duration of the prayers themselves should also be shortened. The ministry also outlined a schedule of power cuts, including a blackout from 30 minutes after the noon prayer until 15 minutes before the afternoon prayer, and another from 30 minutes after the afternoon prayer until 5 p.m.
