Seychelles: Accreditation of Ambassador Georges Tirant to Italy
The Seychelles' resident Ambassador in Paris, Mr. Georges Tirant, presented on Monday 7th April, his Letter of Credence to the President of the Italian Republic, His Excellency Sergio Mattarella, during a formal ceremony held at the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome. During the ceremony, Ambassador Tirant conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of the President of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, to President Mattarella. President Mattarella commended Seychelles for its worldwide rating on economic and political stability, good governance and anti-corruption policies. The Ambassador expressed Seychelles' commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendship, diplomatic relations, and cooperation between the two nations, including with its diaspora community in Italy. Discussions between Ambassador Tirant and President Mattarella focused on areas of mutual interest, including climate change, sustainable development, cultural exchanges, economic collaboration and maritime security. They reaffirmed their dedication to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity in their respective regions and globally. Ambassador Tirant highlighted Seychelles' pioneering efforts in promoting the Blue Economy and the Small Islands Developing States' vulnerabilities while emphasizing the importance of collaborating closer with the Republic of Italy in addressing collectively global challenges such as climate change and ocean conservation. The accreditation ceremony marks a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between Seychelles and Italy, underscoring both nations' shared values and aspirations. Seychelles established diplomatic relations with Italy on 29th June 1976. Seychelles and Brazil to look into widening areas of bilateral cooperation
The Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Mr. Gustavo Martins Nogueira met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde at Maison Queau de Quinssy on Thursday 20th March 2025. The meeting began with Ambassador Nogueira presenting the Brazilian government's condolences on the passing of Mr Robert Morgan in February 2024. Ambassador Nogueira fondly recounted Mr Morgan's dedication towards his duty as Honorary Consul of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Seychelles. They also discussed pending bilateral agreements between the two countries. One of them being the Technical Cooperation Agreement which would allow Seychelles and Brazil to benefit from each other's expertise in various fields. Ambassador Nogueira also took the opportunity to thank the Government of Seychelles for lifting the restrictions on the importation of poultry from Brazil following the outbreak of a disease in a poultry facility in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in July 2024. The restrictions were lifted in January 2025 after the Government of Seychelles received assurances that all necessary protocols were implemented and the disease had been dealt with accordingly. On his side, Minister Radegonde gave Ambassador Nogueira assurances that the finalization of the bilateral agreements would be completed to speed up collaboration and to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries. The meeting ended with Ambassador Nogueira sharing his hopes of welcoming a delegation from the Seychelles to participate in the COP 30 which is set to take place in Belem, Brazil in November this year. Seychelles and France sign an Extradition Agreement
On Thursday 20 March 2025, a signing ceremony was held at Maison Quéau de Quinssy where Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, and H.E. Mrs. Olivia Berkeley-Christmann, the Ambassador of France, formalised an Extradition Agreement between Seychelles and France. This signing concludes numerous consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, the Attorney General's Office, and French representatives. The purpose of the Extradition Agreement between Seychelles and France seeks to enhance the extradition process for suspected criminals, improve the focus on crimes that are recognised by both countries, and will provide an enhanced response to transnational crime. The conclusion of the Agreement also signifies the collaboration and a reinforcement of the diplomatic relations between Seychelles and France.
