Son sensed change in late father before departure to holy land
JOHOR BAHRU: The son of a Malaysian pilgrim who passed away in Makkah on Saturday due to a heart attack said he sensed a change in his father before he departed for the holy land two weeks ago. Muhammad Hazrul Haziq Misnan, 30, shared that his late father, Misnan Ahmad, 60, repeatedly urged him, as the eldest son, to always take care of the family. Upon learning that his father had been admitted to hospital following a heart attack, the family made a video call on Friday, not realising that it would be their final 'meeting'. 'At the time, he seemed stable. We were relieved when he was transferred out of the intensive care unit. He was able to speak and even raised his hand as usual. But then came the heartbreaking news that he had passed away. 'We accept it, as he passed away in the holy land, something many Muslims dream of. Allah SWT loved him more,' he told reporters when met at his home in Taman Istimewa here today. Muhammad Hazrul Haziq said his late father's excitement to perform the haj was evident, as he appeared full of enthusiasm and was already waiting in the car shortly after performing the subuh prayers. 'I sent my mother and late father to Senai International Airport (LTAS) at 6.30 am. He looked so full of energy and was eager to leave home,' he said. Misnan, who was the special officer to Johor Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, died at King Abdul Aziz Hospital.

Johor denies targeting religious preachers amid accreditation checks
JOHOR BAHRU: Religious speakers delivering sermons in Johor must hold valid accreditation, and recent checks are part of routine enforcement rather than a targeted campaign, said the state's Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid. He noted that the requirement is in line with Section 11 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997 and applies equally to all speakers. 'This isn't about singling anyone out. The rule is clear. Anyone who wants to deliver religious talks in Johor must be accredited, with no exceptions,' he said during a visit to the family of Misnan Ahmad, a 60-year-old pilgrim who died in Makkah yesterday. Earlier this week, a preacher was reported to have been detained by the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) for allegedly giving an unauthorised sermon at a private home in Pasir Gudang. The 50-year-old local man was arrested on Thursday evening by JAINJ's enforcement unit, with support from the Seri Alam district police headquarters (IPD), but was released the following day. JAINJ director Nasri Md Ali confirmed the individual will be called in again on July 3 to assist in the department's investigation. As is standard practice, all religious speakers intending to conduct lectures in any state must obtain accreditation from that state's religious authority. In Johor, this falls under the jurisdiction of the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ).

Malaysian Haj pilgrim dies in Makkah from heart attack
MAKKAH: A Haj pilgrim from Johor Bahru, Johor, died at the King Abdul Aziz Hospital here yesterday due to a heart attack. Misnan Ahmad, 60, who was a pilgrim on flight KT46 and residing at the Diary Al Saad residential building here, was confirmed dead at 7.50 am local time. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar extended his condolences to the deceased's wife, who is also in the Holy Land, and to other family members. 'Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will handle the burial arrangements and we expect the funeral to be conducted today,' he said at a press conference at TH Headquarters here today. He added that TH would also hand over the death benefit aid to the next-of-kin and arrange for a 'Badal Haj' (Haj performed on behalf of another) for the deceased during this Haj season. To date, five Malaysian Haj pilgrims have been confirmed to have died in Makkah.
