‘Bummed' Kelly Clarkson opens up about struggles of being single mom, talk show host; ‘It's hard to fit…'
Kelly Clarkson on Friday raged to her audience about her chat show of the same name as she appeared in her first concert in almost six months. The Grammy winner informed her Atlantic City, New Jersey, audience that her hectic daytime TV schedule makes it impractical for her to depart on tour. 'We haven't done a show in a while, y'all, 'cause I have a talk show,' Clarkson remarked onstage, 'It's like a whole other job,' before adding that being a single parent also keeps her busy. The 43-year-old former 'American Idol' contestant further expressed her happiness over securing a two-night run at Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena. 'We are bummed cause we love doing shows, and it's hard to fit it in, so it's cool when it does work out with the schedule.' Thanking all her fans for the support and love, she said, 'It's cool to get to see your faces and feed off y'all. Thank you so much for having so much energy.' Despite not touring since early 2019, Clarkson, who last played a full-length show in November 2024, treated fans to 90 minutes of music on Friday. Her hits included 'My Life Would Suck Without You,' 'Miss Independent,' 'Because of You,' 'Breakaway,' 'Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You),' and 'Since U Been Gone.' Also Read: What is Kelly Clarkson's net worth in 2025? Grammy-winning singer's wealth sees highs and lows after divorce The singer's open remarks come a month after it was revealed that she intends to leave 'The Kelly Clarkson Show' when the agreement she signed expires next year. 'Kelly's number one priority is her children, and they always will be,' an industry source told Page Six in April. Calling her show 'grueling,' the insider added, 'It's a whole lot of work, and I hear that Kelly would like to spend more time down South.' According to an NBC insider who spoke to The Post earlier this week, network executives have started searching for a replacement, which heightened concerns over Clarkson's future as a television presenter. The source further disclosed that there is a long list of names, stating that 'Hoda [Kotb] is on that long list of names'. 'Kelly Clarkson Show', which was launched in September 2018, celebrated its 1,000th episode in March. The pop sensation was inexplicably absent from her show for weeks earlier this year.

'American Idol' winner Kelly Clarkson didn't know show was televised when she signed up
Kelly Clarkson famously won the first season of "American Idol" and has since become one of its most successful winners, but she did not initially know what she had signed up for. During a recent interview on Kylie Kelce's podcast, "Not Gonna Lie," the 42-year-old singer shared she was not aware that what she was doing was going to be televised until later on in the audition process. "For all of us in that first season, we literally didn't ... I didn't even know it was a TV show until my third audition," she explained. "Like, we were literally trying to pay our bills. We're like, 'Oh, this might work. I might meet someone or whatever.' Nobody knew it was gonna amount to anything." She went on to explain that when she was competing as a 19-year-old, the only thing on her mind was to potentially make enough money "to pay my electric bill," or to be able to "afford the deductible on my car that was bashed in that I couldn't afford." Although there were other singing competition shows on television at the time, such as "Pop Stars," Clarkson explained the contestants on the first season of "American Idol" had no idea what could come from being on the show. She said "it was a different thing" from even the second season, because her first single "Miss Independent" had already come out, and the incoming contestants had seen the potential for success. Following her big win, Clarkson released her debut album, "Thankful," in 2003. Its success led her to release her second album, "Breakaway," which included some of her biggest hits, such as "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Because of You." She has since won three Grammy Awards and received 17 nominations. "I didn't even know it was a TV show until my third audition. Like, we were literally trying to pay our bills. We're like, 'Oh, this might work. I might meet someone or whatever.' Nobody knew it was gonna amount to anything." Later in the interview, Kelce brought up the opening segment on her talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," called "Kellyoke," during which Clarkson sings covers of other artists' popular songs. She then defended current artists against people who claim she sings their songs better than they do. "If I sang those songs right now that I sang on 'Idol,' 20 some years ago, they would sound better now. I was all right, but it's just like you're a better singer because you have time and experience, and I've been given the time for that," she said. "They don't have that anymore for artists. I'm just saying, I sound different than I sounded then." When Kelce told her, "You were outstanding then too," Clarkson responded, "I don't agree. I've seen it, and I was like, 'How did I win?' It makes me sweat thinking about it." The "Stronger" singer then explained how lonely it was to be the first winner, saying "I had no one…it was hard." While she didn't name any names, she shared that people in the industry "were really mean" and "hated talent shows." "They didn't like it," she told Kelce. "It took the industry kind of by storm, the talent shows. It was a very unlikable thing in the industry concerning the populous. Now there's so many." Her experiences helped shape her judging style when she signed on to appear on "The Voice" as a coach during its 14th season in 2018, alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Alicia Keys. "People like us who have been there in that audition process and just being so judged instantaneously, on maybe not your best performance, but you know you can do better … it's a grueling thing and it's unforgiving in a lot of ways," Clarkson said. "And a lot of pressure for these artists that I don't think a lot of artists that sell tons of records would be able to handle. It's a different thing."

Kelly Clarkson airs her grievances about her kids' school
Like any good parent, Kelly Clarkson wants to attend as many of her children's performances as she can. But like a lot of working moms, she isn't able to attend everything during the weekdays, especially if she doesn't have advanced warning. "I'm not going to lie. I don't know when the school systems thought it would be a good plan for families and their emotional stability to start having performances at 10 a.m. during the week," the "Miss Independent" singer told Kylie Kelce on her "Not Going to Lie" podcast this week. "This just in: A lot of us work, and surprising you with it — like not giving you an advance, like, so you can at least tell your work, like 'Hey I'm going to need this morning off to come in' — and, like, a lot of jobs wouldn't let you do that anyway. "But even if you're, like, the boss and you would have that control, our kids don't understand. And we just look like a------s when we're not there. And then they go, 'Why was this mom there?' And then you have to say, 'Because that kid got a better mom,' I don't know." The 42-year-old shares two children, River, 10, and Remy, 8, with ex Brandon Blackstock. Recently, Clarkson watched Remy perform Frank Sinatra's "My Way," which went viral after she brought her kids onto her show as guests. The "Since U Been Gone" singer ran up after the performance and gave Remy a huge hug. She later asked the 8-year-old on the show how he felt about the performance going viral and nearly keeled over laughing when he answered, "Yeah. How much views did I get again?" She said when she told him he had more than 1 million views on the social video of his song, he asked her, "'Do you get that many views?'" "I was like, 'Calm down … and not that often," she joked. Last year, the mother of two told People magazine she has a strict no-social media policy for her kids until they're 18. "That can be really hard on kids in general, but especially kids with parents in the public eye," Clarkson said of social media. "So, I have informed them they're not allowed to, under my roof, ever have [it]." She said co-parenting with Blackstock is also getting "easier." "It's hard enough when you're married and come from two different backgrounds and ways to discipline and educate. Doing that in different households can be tough." The former couple finalized their divorce in 2022 after she filed for divorce in 2020. Last week, Clarkson celebrated her 1,000th episode after a nearly two-week unexplained absence. "For 1,000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together," Clarkson shared. "I've lost, alone, a lot," she added without explanation. "And along the way, we found comfort in one another," she said. "I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey. It has been such a cool time."

Kelly Clarkson confesses she's ‘lost' a lot as she returns to talk show after mysterious absence
Kelly Clarkson returned to her talk show with a cryptic message after an unexplained absence. While the "Since U Been Gone" singer marked a major milestone Thursday with her 1,000th episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show," she admitted to her fans that she has "lost" a lot of things thorughout the duration of the program. "I cannot believe today marks the 1,000th. It's crazy," she greeted a roaring crowd. "We have met some hugely talented people, tons of big stars and inspiring everyday heroes." "For 1,000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together," Clarkson shared. "I've lost, alone, a lot," she said, but didn't explain what she was referring to. Her fans were heard sympathizing with her, saying, "Aww" in the background, as Clarkson replied, "It's OK." She appeared to shrug off her vulnerable comment. The "Miss Independent" crooner reflected on how, during the five-year journey of her show, she and her crew and audience have "created a community and supported each other through a lot of ups and downs." "A lot of ups and downs personally as well," she emphasized, as she appeared to reference her own life. "And along the way, we found comfort in one another. . . ." Clarkson remarked. "I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey. It has been such a cool time." The former "The Voice" coach debuted her talk show on Sept. 9, 2019. The exact cause of her extended absence from her show this month remains unclear. She was absent for nearly two weeks while a variety of celebrities acted as guest hosts, and she returned March 18 only to have another guest host take her place the following day. For the March 20 episode, her 1,000th, she returned, and is set to host on March 21 as well. Reps for Clarkson did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. Clarkson's 1,000th episode comes after she's endured a tumultuous few years, as she navigated a highly publicized divorce from her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The aftermath of their messy split included a bitter battle over finances and custody of their children. In 2020, Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, who also served as her manager. Clarkson earned a legal victory in 2023 when a California labor commissioner ruled that Blackstock must pay the "Breakaway" singer $2,641,374 for overstepping in his managerial role and "unlawfully" procuring deals, according to court docs obtained by Fox News Digital. During the time Blackstock was her manager, he made deals that her agent should have handled instead. The former "American Idol" winner's ex was ordered to pay Clarkson more than $2.6 million for the fees he collected from contracted deals with "The Voice," Billboard Music Awards, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Norwegian Cruise Line and more. The two were married in 2013, but they had known each other previously as Blackstock's father, Narvel Blackstock, owns the music management company that represented Clarkson beginning in 2007. The divorce was settled in 2022, with Clarkson receiving primary physical custody of their two children, River and Remington, while still paying their father $45,000 a month in child support.
