Hawkins wins, keeps Bogenpohl in the fold

Hello everyone, I'm Dan Lucy on the Ozarks First digital desk. Missouri State baseball coach Joey Hawkins first game of next season won't be for another eight and a half months. But the Bears boss already has his first win. MoState slugger Caden Bogenpohl says he will return to Springfield next season. Bogenpohl will be a draft eligible junior next season and will be a big key for Hawkins and the Bears. As a sophomore, Bogenpohl hit .296 with 13 homers and 44 RBI. He played in all 54 games, despite being banged up late in the season. The 6-foot-6 center fielder was getting all kinds of attention from schools who wanted him to enter the transfer portal and leave the Bears. Bogenpohl was not biting. Caden Bogenpohl/Returning to Bears (didn't want to play any other place)Joey Hawkins/Missouri State coach (great news) The way Joey Hawkins sees it, Bogenpohl is a piece that he can build a team around. The Jackson, Missouri native is expected to be a high pick in the June 2026 Major League Baseball draft. The Bears have a history of high draft picks, 21 players have been picked in the top 12 rounds of the draft. Names like Jake Burger, Luke Voit, Shaun Marcum, Bill Mueller, and even Drake Baldwin who's tearing it up with the Atlanta braves this summer. Bogenpohl wants to put his name next to those in the list of Missouri State pros. Bogenpohl (wants to the be the next Missouri State great) As for this summer, Bogenpohl says he's going to heal up from some nagging injuries. He'll try out for Team USA this summer and then later play again in the Cape Cod League. He says that's one of the best summer leagues in the country. Bogenpohl (it's a lot of fun) So great news for Missouri State Bears baseball as it transitions into a new conference. But they'll do it with a familiar face in center field. Destinations for Wisconsin football's spring transfer portal window departures

Destinations for Wisconsin football's spring transfer portal window departures The book on Wisconsin football's 2025 spring transfer window closed late last week, with the final unsigned departure, wide receiver Quincy Burroughs, announcing his destination. Wisconsin signed five transfers during the period. Missouri State tight end Lance Mason and offensive lineman Davis Heinzen headline that group, with each projecting to fill a key role in the team's offensive two-deep. Their additions were each direct responses to roster losses during the spring, as starting tight end Tanner Koziol reentered the portal and starting left tackle Kevin Heywood suffered a season-ending ACL injury. That five-player group adds to Wisconsin's impressive winter transfer haul. The program's overall 2025 transfer class, which ranks No. 14 nationally and No. 3 in the Big Ten, will be key to the team showing progress in year three under Luke Fickell. Meanwhile, the Badgers also saw six players depart via the portal during the spring window. With Burroughs now signed, here is a final look at where each ended up: Destinations for every Wisconsin football spring transfer Hamper and Koziol's departures are the most notable of the six, as each had joined the program during the winter transfer window and projected to fill a major role in the two-deep. Wisconsin took little time before replacing the two, adding Mason and Hawaii WR Dekel Crowdus during the spring window. Jensen will be a transfer departure to watch. He was Wisconsin's top in-state commit in the 2024 class and is headed to a strong program in Iowa State. Former Badger lineman Dylan Barrett has found success in making that same transfer move. Otherwise, Wisconsin did not see much notable spring transfer movement. Most of the program's significant departures and additions occurred during the winter period. Bears score 20, stay alive in Valley tourney

NORMAL, Ill–The Missouri State Bears try to avoid a freaky Friday. Missouri State opened play Friday morning in the Valley baseball tournament by losing to Illinois-Chicago 11-5. That loss sent Joey Hawkin's crew into the losers bracket. And MoState squared off with Belmont in a must win game. Missouri State took two of three from Belmont back in late March. It was 8-7 Belmont in the bottom of the fourth, bases loaded for Carter Bergman takes this deep to left, that one is gone, a grand slam, it's 11-8 Missouri State. It was 15-8 in the fifth, bases loaded again for the bears Dylan Robertson, he singles to right, Jake McCutcheon and Caden Bogenpohl both score it's 17-8. It was 18-6 Bears in the sixth when Bogenpohl takes this deep to straight away center, over the boards and gone, a two run homer. Missouri State stays alive with a 20-10 victory.
