Bears fall short of Sycamores on Senior Day
SPRINGFIELD–Playing for the final time on your home field is a bittersweet feeling, for every athlete. However, that's part of life, but it doesn't make it any easier to acknowledge or accept.
The great thing about Senior Day, though, is the opportunity for fans, players, and coaches to celebrate all the work the graduating athletes have put in to the program.
Sunday, the Missouri State baseball team honored four players for their time and contribution to the team: Shortstop Tyler Epstein, second baseman Nick Rodriguez, infielder Dylan Robertson, and pitcher Jackson Holmes.
Each player was escorted by their family and greeted with a hug by Head Coach Joey Hawkins. They also received a printed picture of themselves as a keepsake and momento of their time in maroon and white.
Unfortunately, the visiting Indiana State Sycamores did not follow the fairytale scipt and ended up spoiling the celebration, by defeating the Bears, 7-6.
Despite 3 rbi from Jake McCutcheon and a 2-run homer by Epstein, MSU wasn't able to beat ISU and missed out on the chance to sweep their weekend series.
However, even with Sunday's loss, the Bears still lead the Missouri Valley Conference by a single game against Murray State. Which means, both teams could share the regular season conference title crown, or one of them could claim it outright.
Both teams will rest up then play a 3-game series beginning Thursday, May 15.
