St. Louis police spike dozens of cars overnight after ‘stunt' driving

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis police spiked dozens of vehicles overnight while responding to an apparent late-night 'stunt' driving event, part of an ongoing push to curb reckless driving. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reports that officers spiked around 40-50 cars that fled shortly after police activated their emergency lights and sirens. It's unclear how many of those vehicles were directly involved in stunt driving. SLMPD tells FOX 2 there were no immediate arrests and no reports of crashes or injuries. Just after midnight Saturday, officers responded to reports of dangerous driving in the 6500 block of Manchester Avenue, located in the City's Ellendale neighborhood. When they arrived, they found several vehicles 'performing stunts on a parking lot,' according to SLMPD. That's when police used spike strips to stop dozens of the fleeing vehicles. 'The spiking of these fleeing vehicles sends a clear message — this reckless behavior is not welcome in St. Louis and we will continue to enforce the law,' said Mitch McCoy, SLMPD Director of Public Affairs and Information, in a statement to FOX 2. Police shared one video clip with FOX 2 that appears to show several vehicles taking off in different directions after the alleged stunt driving event. Close Thanks for signing up!
