Maharashtra: 4 Bangladeshi migrants held at a labour camp in Kondhwa
The Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Indian Army's Southern Command and the Pune city police arrested four Bangladeshi migrants from a labour camp in Kondhwa Budruk on Friday evening.
Police have identified the accused as Swapan Nidhubhushan Mandal (39), Mithunkumar Dilip Mandal (31), Randhir Kumar Mandal (37) and Dilip Mandal (38), all natives of Bangladeshi, currently residing illegally in Pune city.
An FIR was lodged against them at the Kondhwa police station under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and the Passport Act.
According to the FIR, based on information received from the Military Intelligence, a team from Kondhwa police station, led by senior inspector Vinay Patankar and assistant inspector Sachin Thorat, nabbed the four suspects at KEC labour camp on the Punyadham Ashram Road in Kondhwa Budruk.
During interrogation, it was revealed that all four suspects are from Bangladesh. Police suspect they entered India illegally by crossing the international border at West Bengal individually over the last few years. A probe is on to know how they crossed the international border without any permission and then procured Indian documents such as Aadhaar card, Pan cards and voter ID cards.
Sources in the police said the accused were initially working in Kolkata and other cities, but shifted to Pune a few months ago and were working on a construction site. Police suspect they are in possession of their Bangladeshi identity documents. Police have seized their cell phones and sim cards for investigation.
