Coles joins Woolworths and Aldi in major salad recall amid contamination fears
Coles has joined Woolworths and Aldi in pulling salad products from the shelves amid concerns customers who consume them could become unwell. Several different fresh-cut salad products, which were available for sale in all three supermarkets, have been recalled due to the potential of microbiological contamination. The warning now extends to stores in northern New South Wales and several more products. The feared contamination, E. coli-STEC can cause diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, nausea and vomiting, which can last for up to 10 days. "Consumers should not eat this product," Food Standards Australia New Zealand said. Shoppers who purchased the product should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice. The recall affects Woolworths fresh-cut salad available for sale online and in-store at Woolworths Supermarkets and Woolworths Metro in QLD and Northern NSW. Affected stores include Tweed City, Tweed Heads, Ballina Fair, Ballina River Street, Byron Bay, Cabarita, Casino, Goonellabah, Kingscliff, Lennox Head, Lismore Central, Lismore Square and Mullumbimby. Some people can develop liver failure and other conditions which require hospitalisation." He adds, "infected people can spread the illness for up to three weeks. "It's a nasty bacteria." On Thursday afternoon, Coles also announced it was pulling similar products from its shelves as well. The products have been available for sale in Coles Supermarkets and Coles Local stores and through Coles Online in Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
