ZEISS India pledges to create a greener future by planting a Miyawaki forest

Bengaluru: ZEISS, a pioneer in optics and optoelectronics in India, pledges a transformative environmental initiative taking root in Rajasthan. The brand unveils a 2-acre forest with 32,000 trees, meticulously cultivated using the innovative Japanese Miyawaki afforestation technique. This vital green space will flourish within the native forest in Pali, Rajasthan, serving as a testament to ZEISS India's deep commitment to sustainability. The project will be brought to life through a collaboration with the Enviro Creators Foundation. The area chosen in Rajasthan is the one that is significantly devastated environmentally and deserted due to rapid industrialization, water scarcity and pollutants released by industries around. Spanning across 2 acres, the initiative by ZEISS India is designed to do more than grow trees. It will revive degraded land, enhance local biodiversity, and cultivate a self-sustaining ecosystem. The secret to this accelerated ecological restoration lies in the Miyawaki method, pioneered by the esteemed Japanese botanist. The renowned method is celebrated for its unparalleled ability to cultivate dense, native forests at an accelerated pace. It champions plant growth 10x faster and yields an incredible 30x thicker forest than conventional plantations, impressively becoming self-sustaining within approximately 3 years. Through this initiative, ZEISS India will fund the planting, watering, and maintenance of over 32,000 trees for 3 years until such time they become self-sufficient and multiply thereon as a forest cover. Dhaval Radia, Chief Financial Officer, ZEISS India, expresses, "At ZEISS, our foundation-led structure fuels a relentless pursuit of innovation, a principle we extend to our environmental responsibilities. We are proud to join forces with the Enviro Creators Foundation for this pivotal afforestation project in Rajasthan. This endeavor demonstrates our deep commitment to environmental stewardship and our belief in forging a positive, enduring legacy for the environment. By implementing the Miyawaki method, we will cultivate a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem that will provide invaluable benefits to the community and biodiversity for future generations." ZEISS in India is deepening its commitment to sustainable practices with a new initiative focused on environmental responsibility. The upcoming manufacturing facility in Bengaluru will feature a water recycling plant to reduce its environmental impact significantly. This builds on the brand's existing efforts at its current Indian manufacturing facility, which already utilizes green energy and remains dedicated to finding even more sustainable solutions. Enviro Creators Foundation has extensive experience, establishing over 120 forests across 11 Indian states. Their proven expertise in afforestation projects ensures the efficient and effective execution of this new initiative. This partnership aims to drive responsible practices that create long-term value for our business and society.

Seer takes the lead in Miyawaki model forest development

Koppal: Abhinava Gavisiddheshwara Swamiji of Koppal Gavi Mutt is spearheading the creation of the Miyawaki model forest. The initiative involves planting 25,000 saplings across a 2 km stretch with a 12-foot width, located on the Mutt's 45-acre property near Kolur and Katralli villages in Koppal taluk. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Mutt, traditionally recognised for its 'Anna Dasoha' (community feeding), is venturing into environmental conservation by implementing the experimental approach developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. "In the Miyawaki model, 3-4 plants are planted per square metre, grown densely, and afforestation is done. In this model, trees grow 10 times faster than those in traditional forests. These clusters of trees not only conserve 100 times more biodiversity but also absorb 40 times more carbon and release more oxygen. Hence, Swamiji has taken steps to adopt this model," said Sharanu Shettar, the seer's personal secretary, . "Due to the close proximity of the trees, they compete for sunlight, which accelerates their growth. Akira Miyawaki established over 1,700 microforests throughout Asia utilising this model. This approach is anticipated to be particularly beneficial for areas like Koppal," adds Rajesh Yavagal, a devotee of the Mutt. This initiative aims to put into practice the idea that if each person plants a single tree, summers will be significantly cooler. In this context, with the involvement of the forest department, agriculture department, zilla panchayat, district administration, and in partnership with the ILYF (International Lingayat Youth Forum) organisation based in Bengaluru, which focuses on social service, efforts are under way to cultivate a forest in the 45-acre area of the 'Gavi Mutt Gurukula Shikshana Samsthe' using the Miyawaki method. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The planting area encompasses 60 different tree species, including neem, banyan, jackfruit, peepal, bamboo, Indian beech, java plum, parijata, teak, holematti, gulmohar, kadamba, mango, tabubiya, jacaranda, mahogany, and soap nut. Considering the outcomes of this initiative, there is an intention to implement the Miyawaki model on other properties of Gavi Mutt in the near future. Should this endeavour inspire the devotees, it could potentially contribute to the greening of Koppal.

Two Miyawaki forests launched

Mangaluru: World Environment Day saw the launch of two Miyawaki Forests—one by Nitte (Deemed to be University) and another by the Young Indians (Yi) Mangaluru chapter, on Thursday. Nitte (Deemed to be University) launched the Nitte Miyawaki Forest. Pratap Lingaiah, state NSS officer, youth empowerment and sports department, govt of Karnataka, inaugurated it by unveiling the plaque and planting a sapling. The Miyawaki method, developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, is a proven technique for creating dense, fast-growing native forests using only indigenous plant species. It involves high-density, multi-layered planting that mimics natural forest ecosystems, resulting in rapid growth and self-sustainability within 2-3 years. Native species such as neem, benga, kadamba, mango, golden shower, Ashoka tree, Indian blackberry, kokum, monkey jack, surahonne, jackfruit, red sandalwood, and cinnamon were planted in a 6,534 sqft dedicated to developing the Nitte Miyawaki Forest. These activities are part of the ongoing mission of Nitte to promote green initiatives. Yi Mangaluru chapter achieved a green milestone with the launch of a Miyawaki forest at NorthernSky Greenfield Meadows, Surathkal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Spearheaded by the chapter's climate change vertical, this initiative stands as an example of youth-driven environmental stewardship and community-led climate resilience. The land measuring 1,900sqm for the Miyawaki forest was provided by NorthernSky properties, while the saplings were procured from the Karnataka forest department, reinforcing public-private collaboration in environmental restoration. The event was graced by Anthony Mariappa, deputy conservator of forests, Mangaluru division. M Athmika Amin, immediate past chair of Yi Mangaluru and regional mentor for the climate change vertical SRTKKA, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of the Miyawaki method. She reaffirmed Yi's commitment to launching many more such urban forestry projects in the near future. Addressing the gathering, Mariappa highlighted the pressing need for civil society to support afforestation efforts. With growing urban development leading to tree loss, particularly from road widening and infrastructure projects, community-led plantation drives are crucial to restoring ecological balance. He also emphasised the role of urban forests in mitigating climate change impacts. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

A Forest Flourishes: The Miyawaki Method and Its Impact on Urban Life in Hyderabad

On World Environment Day, as the world reflects on the urgent need for environmental conservation, Hyderabad's Shamshabad suburb offers an inspiring example of nature-led urban transformation. There is a revolution, based on nature and sustainability, in the realm of urban living. Shamshabad, a quiet suburb of Hyderabad, is witnessing something remarkable—a thriving, dense forest brought to life using the Miyawaki method on a 60-acre stretch of land. This visionary project strives to achieve some green heights, but it redefines construction and urban living while trying to preserve nature. An Innovative Way of Moulding Concrete into Nature Stonecraft Group drives this change, as Woods Shamshabad real estate development breaks the norm of what real estate is. This is not yet another gated community, but Hyderabad's first large-scale compressed forest based on the Miyawaki method, which speeds up growth. Here, 450,000 saplings of 186 native species are planted and are 'densely packed' as if they are undergoing natural evolutionary processes. This simulates decades of growth into mere years. A New Approach to Real Estate Woods Shamshabad focus on aesthetics, but not exclusively. Every enclosed residential plot of approximately 1800 square yards comes with its own 'living green wall'. The dense cluster of trees surrounding the plot not only reduces noise and purifies the air but also creates a naturally cooler microclimate, sustained by the grass-covered landscape. This drastically reduces the air-conditioning needed, improves air quality, and, better yet, allows nature to bloom in a previously hopeless situation. Sustainability does not get dull even under the forest canopy. Monsoon runoff is harvested by rainwater harvesting systems, while solar-powered rooftops reduce utility costs. Rainwater harvesting systems capture monsoon runoff, while solar-powered rooftops slash utility costs and reduce the community's carbon footprints. Where Nature Meets Modern Living For Kirthi Chilukuri, Founder & Managing Director of Stonecraft Group, the vision behind Woods Shamshabad was clear, "We wanted to go beyond just building homes. Our goal was to create living habitats—where nature and humanity co-exist in perfect harmony. Woods Shamshabad is proof that sustainability and luxury can beautifully complement each other. This development is proof of our promise for environmental sustainability. This is the day we all share an equanimity in taking care of our planet as it approaches World Environment Day. This expansion provides the ideal environment for residents to relax, while maintaining low air pollution, increasing biodiversity & ensuring natural resources are conserved. Stonecraft Group believes that every project should be a part of the environment." And the development doesn't just provide access to green spaces—it is fully integrated with Hyderabad's urban infrastructure. The location of Woods Shamshabad is particularly strategic, as it sits within 20 minutes of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and has direct access to the Outer Ring Road. Woods Shamshabad also sits adjacent to the upcoming RRTS station, allowing residents effortless commuting to the IT hubs and frequent travelling via air. However, what stands out above the rest not accessible features of the development is the nature life found within—Woods Shamshabad possesses a total of 141 different bird species ranging from kingfisher to koels, additionally accompanied by 14 mature heritage trees which were saved from the Hyderabad Secretariat, which serve as a linkage between the urban setting of the city and its intended greener visions. These trees mark the entrance of the area. Furthermore, an ecology centre on the site measures biodiversity levels, confirming that the forest is free to foster life in all its forms. Investing in the Future The market has responded with enthusiasm. Land values in Shamshabad have steadily climbed since 2020, and Woods Shamshabad has gained recognition for its eco-conscious approach to development. Investors see the value in Stonecraft Group's commitment to sustainability, whether through biophilic home designs or innovative golf courses crafted in collaboration with global sports management experts. At a time when urban expansion often comes at nature's expense, Woods Shamshabad offers a new vision—one where development enhances, rather than diminishes, the environment. A Legacy Beyond Today Woods Shamshabad is not only a location, but rather is considered a movement. It seeks to develop areas where the land, air and water flourish. Residents do not simply buy houses in these areas but capture a vibrant ecosystem that will be preserved for the future. With spring, new buds blossom, and with every passing year, the community gains strength, the air purifies, and the forest deepens. Preservation and development will enable the fostering of new living ecosystems. Woods Shamshabad aims to provide unparalleled facilities which will allow effortless fosterage and enable enhancement of infrastructure. In order to guarantee that the forest will continue to thrive and sustain life in all of its forms, an ecology center on the property actively monitors biodiversity.
