Wolves and Brighton in 7-team transfer battle for one of Africa's hottest stars

Young Gambian striker Abdoulie Manneh has emerged as one of the hottest young African prospects in European football after starring for Mjallby in Sweden Brighton, Wolves and Bournemouth are among several Premier League clubs monitoring 20-year-old Gambian hotshot Abdoulie Manneh. The lively young forward only moved to Europe in 2024 when he joined Swedish outfit Mjallby but having struck seven times in 12 matches this season - he is now on the radar of several English sides. Burnley and Championship side Portsmouth are also in contention for his signature and have made explanatory checks on the player. Additionally, Manneh can operate as a No.10 or from the flank and he is valued at around £4.25million, though he could yet be available for south of that figure. ‌ The Gambia international has two caps for his country and would welcome the opportunity to move to English football. There is also strong interest from Europe. ‌ Manneh is in line to earn a lucrative switch this summer as Mjallby are relishing the chance to overturn significant profit. The highly-rated prospect is represented by the same agent as Brighton ace Yankuba Minteh and his representatives believe he also has what it takes to play within Europe's top-five leagues. Albion have had huge success shopping in Scandinavia in recent years and have landed the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Yasin Ayari from Sweden while also signing Minteh and Ibrahim Osman from Denmark, respectively. An array of scouts were recently present as 20-year-old Manneh struck a hat-trick in a 4-1 win over Degerfors in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Olympiakos and MLS side FC Cincinnati are also monitoring Manneh. Mjallby sporting director Hasse Larsson recently told Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen when asked about interest in the Gambian and his team-mate Nicklas Rojkjær: "I haven't really thought about it yet. But we are in contact with them all the time. ‌ "We own the issue, and it all depends on how the team, and they perform. And which interested parties show up. We haven't talked about that, so I don't know." When asked what sort of price the club would be looking for to entertain a sale, Larsson added: 'It's about age and how far they have come in development. And how things are going for Mjallby.' ‌ Larsson insists that in an ideal world, both stars will stay so their value can grow even more, adding: 'Yes, we do [want to keep them]. But if there is an offer we can say no to, that will be a different matter. "We know where we are in the food chain. Actually, I hope they stay in Mjällby for a few more years, maybe even extend. But that is not very likely. They are fantastic guys who fit perfectly in Mjallby. And they are happy and comfortable.'

Celtic: Johan Mjallby believes Hoops can sell Maeda for £50m

The attacker has had a standout season, winning the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award and scoring 33 goals with 11 assists. His Parkhead contract runs until summer 2027, but his on-pitch success could naturally attract transfer interest. Read more: If clubs show interest in Maeda in the upcoming transfer window, Mjallby thinks Celtic could demand a record fee. He told Premier Sports' Scottish Football Social Club: "I'm not an expert, but I would definitely say around £45-50m. "We were talking about Nicolas Kuhn at the start of the season when he had three, four good months, and it was around £25m. "It's never going to be £15m or £20m [for Maeda], it's definitely going to be £25m plus." Michael Stewart shared a similar opinion, saying: "You have to recognise that they [potential buyers] are never going to pay the top, top money for someone that has played in Scotland. "Realistically, I don't see why Celtic, if they were going to sell him, would accept anything less than £25m." Maeda had a chance to win it for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday in the final moments, but was stopped by Liam Kelly and James Tavernier. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers defended him: "We have to give him a bit of leeway. "He'd been in Japan all week; he had his first training day with us yesterday. "He flew expecting his wife to have their third child, and she didn't have it, so we had to come back and then come into a game here at Ibrox. "It's one of those tough ones, you look at it and you analyse it, he's through in goal. "What can he do? "He can toe poke it, can he get around the keeper? "But in fairness to Liam [Kelly], he's done well, he's had a good spread on it, and I'm not sure Daizen can get it square for us to finish."

Daizen Maeda given unprecedented Celtic price tag verdict

The attacker has enjoyed a stellar season and won PFA Scotland's Player of the Year award on Sunday evening. Maeda has scored 33 goals and assisted 11 in a campaign for the ages. His current Parkhead deal expires in the summer of 2027, although with prosperity on the pitch comes natural transfer interest. Read more: Indeed, should clubs circle for Maeda in the upcoming window, Mjallby reckons Celtic could demand a record fee: "I'm not an expert, but I would definitely say around £45-50m," he said when asked on Premier Sports' Scottish Football Social Club. "We were talking about Nicolas Kuhn at the start of the season when he had three, four good months, and it was around £25m. "It's never going to be £15m or £20m [for Maeda], it's definitely going to be £25m plus." Michael Stewart weighed in and delivered a similar verdict: "You have to recognise that they [potential buyers] are never going to pay the top, top money for someone that has played in Scotland," he said. "Realistically, I don't see why Celtic, if they were going to sell him, would accept anything less than £25m." Maeda had a terrific opportunity to win it for Celtic against Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday in the dying embers, although he was stopped in his tracks by Liam Kelly and James Tavernier. Brendan Rodgers let him off: "We have to give him a bit of leeway," said the Celtic manager post-match. "He'd been in Japan all week; he had his first training day with us yesterday. But in fairness to Liam [Kelly], he's done well, he's had a good spread on it, and I'm not sure Daizen can get it square for us to finish. "But it just shows you we kept going right to the very end, the will was there to score, to fight, to run, and yeah, it was pleasing, especially the second half."
