Annual Black Bear Festival returns to Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, N.C. (WNCT) — One of the larger festivals in Eastern N.C. is back in Plymouth. The National Black Bear Festival is underway this weekend. The highest density area for black bears in the nation is the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula which Plymouth is in the middle of. The annual festival kicked off Friday, June 6, 2025. 'It's the best. Everyone walks by, everybody speaks,' Shedrick Moore with Mo's Turkey Legs said. 'Everybody's having a good time. It's just, it's a great time every time we come out.' The weekend is a big one for local businesses too as thousands of people come to the small town. 'I love seeing everybody come from all over North Carolina to come support our small businesses,' Shelby Craddock of Sassy Sisters Boutique said. 'I'm with Sassy Sisters Boutique and we'll be here all day tomorrow.' Some vendors said they're confident their food is going to be a fan favorite at this year's festival. 'When they come get my food, then they'll know that the colonel's not the only one that fixes food that is finger-licking good,' Owner/Operator of Springers Backyard Grill and Catering Jerry Spencer said. 'If you didn't get it from Springers, you didn't get no good food. So, when you come down to the festival, you look for me right across from the police station. Just sniff and smell to bring you right to this place.' The festival runs all day Saturday, beginning with the Run With the Bears 5K. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
