Delhi CM Rekha Gupta assures Mohalla Clinic staff job safety amid AAP's allegations

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured the Mohalla Clinic staff that they will not lose their jobs amid concerns over a possible overhaul of the system and AAP alleging the dismissal of thousands of doctors, nurses, pharmacists and multi-tasking workers from the clinics. Addressing the growing apprehension among the workers, Gupta said the existing employees will be given priority under the new healthcare framework being introduced by the Delhi government. "There is no reason to worry. No one will lose their job. In fact, the existing staff will be prioritised in the new system," Gupta said, addressing fears sparked by reports of restructuring. The government plans to transition the current Mohalla Clinics into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, aimed at providing integrated primary healthcare services to citizens, officials said. They said the new model is designed to enhance infrastructure, improve service delivery and expand access to medicines and diagnostics while ensuring continuity of employment for existing workers. Addressing a press conference, Delhi Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the minutes of a meeting issued on May 7 indicated plans to shut down most Mohalla clinics in Delhi. The stated reason, he said, was that Ayushman Arogya Mandirs would be established in their place and wherever an Arogya Mandir is built, there would be no need for a nearby Mohalla Clinic. Responding to AAP's allegations, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh said the government will not do injustice to anyone and everyone eligible will be included. "There will be a proper process to hire doctors and all eligible candidates can apply. There will be transparency in the selection as we aim to provide the best healthcare to our people. "All good doctors and healthcare workers will be with us. Everything will be done systematically," the minister told PTI. However, according to Bharadwaj, the May 7 statement read that the clinics will remain operational only until the Arogya Mandirs are constructed, after which both clinics and their personnel will be removed. "They've been trying to get a meeting fixed with the chief minister since then. But when they got no response, they were left with no choice but to come in thousands to the CM's Janata Darbar," he said. Bharadwaj accused the BJP of going back on its promise. "Before elections, the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), (Union Health Minister) J P Nadda and every BJP MP and minister promised that no public welfare scheme run during the AAP government tenure -- be it free electricity, 20,000 litres of water or Mohalla clinics -- would be stopped. But the first order by the new health minister was to shut down 250 rented clinics," he said. "With the sentiment of political hatred, all the facilities are being shut down. And on top of that, the people who used to come to the clinics every day, used to get free treatment, free medicines and free tests, those facilities are also being shut down by the BJP," he added. Bharadwaj noted that many of the staffers have been working since 2017. "For more than eight years, they've worked, earning between ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 a month. Their income depends on patient turnout. Their entire family is dependent on them," he said. "Just like the BJP removed over 10,000 bus marshals, data entry operators in hospitals, yoga instructors, Delhi Assembly Research Centre (DARC) fellows and guest teachers, now they're targeting the Mohalla Clinic staff. This is shameful," he added. "In Arvind Kejriwal's government, the poor got jobs. Today, under the BJP, they are being removed without any thought about how they will run their homes and feed their families," he added. The BJP, which returned to power in Delhi in February after a gap of over 26 years, approved the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in its first cabinet meeting held shortly after Chief Minister Gupta and six of her ministers took oath on February 20. In her Budget speech, Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, announced that 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will be set up across Delhi. According to officials, there are currently 553 Mohalla clinics in the national capital, of which 70 are proposed to be upgraded into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.

Mohalla buses to see the light of day soon but under a new name

The Delhi government is all set to launch mini electric buses or Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchanges (DEVI) buses to provide last-mile connectivity. The buses will be the same purchased by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government under its flagship Mohalla bus scheme, with no changes except the name and hoardings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The former AAP government first mentioned the Mohalla bus scheme in the 2023-24 Delhi budget, and bus trials were conducted on several routes in 2024. However, the scheme never materialised, and the buses remained parked in the depots, lacking the compliance certificate. With the coming of the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the city, the buses have received the required certificates under the new name – DEVI. According to a Delhi Transport Department (DTC) official, 146 routes have been selected for the plying of these buses. 'The routes have been chalked out after studying the mobility data of the people's movement in the Capital. The aim is to increase the accessibility to public transportation,' said the official. Over 300 buses will be launched in the first phase, and they will run in east Delhi's Ghazipur and Vinod Nagar East, and Nangloi, west Delhi, said the official. These buses will serve as feeders to bus stands and metro stations. Occupancy, fare Each bus will have 23 seats, with six reserved for women, and a standing capacity of 13 passengers. Fares will range from ₹10 to ₹25, with free travel for women like in the DTC buses. The buses will run at an interval of 10 minutes. 'The aim is to cater to commuters looking for last-mile connectivity. So to be successful, DEVI buses need to be available at shorter intervals, unlike regular buses,' said the official. The buses were to be flagged off by the CM on April 22, but was postponed. The official said they will be launched next month.

A new temaki bar is coming to Dubai, brought to you by Neha Mishra of Kinoya fame and Panchali Mahendra of Atelier House Hospitality

Hand rolls for days, coming soon by Neha Mishra and Panchali Mahendra… It's always good news when two F&B powerhouses team up for some food-related quests, and this new pairing featuring some top-tier names comes with the promise of an unmissable dining concept. Neha Mishra, chef, restauranteur, Kinoya, and Panchali Mahendra, CEO of Atelier House Hospitality, bringing to you concepts like 11Woodfire, Gerbou, Mohalla and more, are bringing a brand new concept to the city. Conceptualised, as all great things are, in the spur of a moment at Mishra's birthday celebration at home last year, where a serving of some DIY temaki rolls as a spread inspired an idea between the pair, this is going to be about all things temaki. We all know and love Kinoya, having started as a supper club and now making waves not only in Dubai, but also in London, for some of the best, heart-warming, soul-repairing Japanese ramen around town, casually scoring a Bib Gourmand on the Michelin Guide and the third spot on MENA's 5o Best. This will be a name completely independent of that identity, a new brand sharing no resemblance to any of Kinoya's offerings. Set to be all about temaki, the venture will be a new Japanese dining concept, emphasizing temaki and a unique speakeasy bar with a specialised cocktail program. The menu will feature a diverse selection of temaki, freshly prepared to preserve flavour and texture. The set-up of the venue and the concept will be such that diners will be able interact with chefs during meal preparation, making for a refined, interactive dining experience. The concept is set to open in the third quarter of 2025. It's being expected that the opening will be between August and September, explained Mishra in an Instagram post announcing the upcoming collaboration. 'We are excited to introduce this interactive dining concept, which combines culinary artistry with engaging experiences. Tailored to resonate with the city's appetite for innovative Japanese cuisine, doing this with one of the most talented chefs in the city, and my friend, is going to be a fun ride,' said Panchali Mahendra, in an official press statement. 'As a gaijin who has dedicated their life's work to the pursuit of understanding and creating (my own adaptation of) Japanese cuisine, this feels like a natural progression. Other than being a chef, creating concepts and being an operator appeals to me equally — this time from a unique perspective of being a conductor of the orchestra and allowing the craftsmanship to come from the masters. The partnership, experience, and infrastructure that AHH brings give strength and support to our collective vision,' added Neha Mishra. Stay tuned for all the exciting developments – we know we'll be… @astoryoffood, @atelierhousehospitality, @panchalimahendra Images: @neovikram > Sign up for FREE to get exclusive updates that you are interested in
