Kuala Berang man undeterred by injury, set to join qurban this year
KUALA BERANG: Mohamad Yusuf Abdullah from Kampung Kuala Dura remains resolute in joining this year's Aidiladha sacrificial rites or qurban, despite having previously required 12 stitches after a sacrificial knife accidentally slashed his right calf.
The community activist said the incident occurred at about 10.30am on June 17 last year, while he was preparing to perform the slaughter of the second animal.
He said he had been invited to carry out the ritual slaughter of six animals during a korban programme held in Kampung Matang, near here.
"After the first slaughter, a villager offered to let me use a new knife he owned.
"At that time, the animal was being restrained by villagers, but it broke free, possibly startled when it lifted its head.
"As I was holding the knife, it slipped and struck my calf. When I lifted my robe, I saw that the calf was slashed open and the flesh exposed. Thankfully, it didn't hit any major veins or arteries," he said.
Yusuf said the incident resulted in him being warded at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu for five days, during which he received 12 stitches.
He said the experience, gained from 10 years of performing animal slaughter, now serves as a reminder for him to be more cautious in the future.
Yusuf added that he has already received invitations from three villages to take part in this year's sacrificial slaughter.
