Mohammed Bin Rashid Library Hosts UAE-China Forum to Deepen Cultural Ties
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library brought together artists, scholars and diplomats for the second UAE-China Forum, reinforcing four decades of diplomatic relations through cultural exchange and shared artistic heritage. Organised in partnership with the Emirates Society for Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation and the Chinese Embassy in the UAE, the event spotlighted the growing cultural and intellectual ties between the two nations. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, highlighted the shared artistic traditions of Arab and Chinese civilizations, particularly in calligraphy. He emphasized the need for broader literary exchange, calling for more translations between Arabic and Chinese to bridge cultural understanding. Khalid Al Jallaf, Chairman of the Emirates Society for Arabic Calligraphy, said the forum reflects the UAE's strategy to build global partnerships through the arts. 'This year's edition underscores the role of art in fostering dialogue, tolerance and mutual understanding,' he noted. Chinese Consul General in Dubai, Ou Bo Qian, praised calligraphy as a cultural bridge, describing it as a blend of aesthetics and philosophy that mirrors the symbolic nature of Arabic script. The forum featured exhibitions, workshops and seminars focused on Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation, providing a platform for mutual learning and creative collaboration. Mohammed Bin Rashid Library celebrates remarkable achievements at annual partners gala dinner
195 visits by official and diplomatic delegations from the UAE and abroad. The library has witnessed significant growth in its knowledge resources, reaching over 730,000 printed books in more than 90 global languages. One billion electronic sources and 7 databases that include reports, researches, PhD, and master's theses. Organising and hosting more than 200 events, namely the first edition of the Dubai International Library Conference 2024. The library ranked seventh globally in the number of visits to its website, the first locally among library websites in the UAE, and the second as a local cultural destination that community members e-visit. In his keynote address, Al Murr emphasised the importance of cooperation in achieving significant milestones. The event commenced with a video presentation, spotlighting key statistics, figures, initiatives, events, and the diverse cultural programmes organised by the library over the past year. The presentation also underscored the library's efforts in promoting knowledge and cultivating a passion for reading within the community, while highlighting its pioneering role in advancing cultural and intellectual development within society. Throughout the year, the library attracted more than 700,000 visitors between individuals and public and private entities and welcomed 195 official and diplomatic delegations from the UAE and abroad. Additionally, the library organised and hosted more than 200 events, namely the first edition of the Dubai International Library Conference 2024, with the participation of thinkers, writers, and experts from around the world. As a crowning achievement, the library ranked seventh globally in terms of website visits and engagement, securing the first position locally among library websites in the UAE.
