MCSY highlights role of culture in driving entrepreneurship in Oman
Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) organised a session titled 'Fundamentals of Cultural Entrepreneurship' on Tuesday as part of its Knowledge Dialogue programme.
The session focused on cultural entrepreneurship as a means to sustainable development and driver for building a creative economy anchored in Omani heritage.
Speakers stressed on the potential of transforming the country's diverse cultural heritage into ventures that generate economic and social value. The discussion underlined the need to empower youth, expand job opportunities and preserve Oman's cultural identity. Key topics included strategic opportunities in cultural entrepreneurship, turning cultural assets into marketable products and services, and the role of digital platforms and emerging technologies in promoting cultural goods.
Participants also discussed innovative funding models, marketing challenges, and the importance of developing managerial skills among young cultural entrepreneurs.
Moderated by writer Mohammed bin Saif al Rahbi, the session featured Dr Saeed bin Mohammed al Siyabi, an academic and researcher in cultural and media affairs, who shared examples of successful projects in Oman and abroad. The session highlighted the need for stronger partnerships between the public and private sectors and civil society to create an ecosystem that supports cultural initiatives.
Proposals included conducting training programmes, offering incentives for investors, developing government-backed entrepreneurship initiatives, and creating funding mechanisms to sustain cultural projects.
MCSY stated that its efforts aim to increase awareness of culture's role in economic and social progress and attracting greater investment and support from both public and private entities.
