Sprinter Azeem set to test speed in local meets before Uni Games
Malaysia's Muhammad Azeem Fahmi (centre) in action. - filepic PETALING JAYA: National sprint sensation Mohd Azeem Fahmi is set to return to Malaysia earlier than expected as he fine-tunes preparations for the World University Games in Germany from July 16-27. The 21-year-old Auburn University student is expected to return home after the National Colleagite Athletics Association (NCAA) Division One outdoor track and field championships at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from June 11–14, where he's part of the 4x100m relay squad.

Azeem misses 100m semis but hopeful for relay success
PETALING JAYA: National sprinter Mohd Azeem Fahmi failed to reach the semi-finals of the men's 100m but kept hope alive in the relay event at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Florida. Azeem finished sixth in his heat to come out 16th overall among 24 runners after clocking 10.20s in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Just days after a challenging outing at the Southeastern Conference Championships, the 21-year-old returned to make strong statement by winning at the Appalachian State University Track and Field Championships on Sunday.

Azeem wins 100m race at Appalachian State Championships
PETALING JAYA: National sprinter Mohd Azeem Fahmi has won the 100m race at the Appalachian State University Track and Field Championships, equalling his national record time in Boone, North Carolina on Sunday (May 18). The 21-year-old, who competed in the Southeastern Conference on Saturday, drove six hours with his coach, Ken Harnden, to the meet, and it proved worthwhile. Azeem finished first in the final, clocking 10.09s. Coastal Carolina's Deonte Hardy was second with a time of 10.41s, while App State's Armonte Ferguson came third with 10.43s. Azeem holds the national 100m record of 10.09s, set at the 2022 World Junior Championships in Cali, Colombia. Azeem was hoping to improve his rankings to compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Regionals.

Hamstring injury hampers Azeem's bid to run in 100m
PETALING JAYA: National sprinter Mohd Azeem Fahmi is an uncertainty for the Southeastern Conference Championships starting today at the University of Kentucky track in Lexington. Azeem had withdrawn from the individual events in the Louisiana State University Invitational two weeks ago and said he had been heavily taped for the hamstring injury since last week.
