Post-mortem reveals gunshot wound in suspected murder case

IPOH: The post-mortem results of a man found dead with stab wounds to the abdomen at a house in Taman Tasek Damai here on Tuesday have revealed a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the report was obtained following the autopsy on the 57-year-old victim, conducted at the Forensic Department of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) yesterday. "In addition to the stab wounds, there was also a gunshot wound to the left side of the chest. The forensic team confirmed that the victim died due to the gunshot injury," he said. He said those with information on the case are urged to come forward to assist with the investigation, which is being carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. "Anyone with information can contact the investigating officer Assistant Superintendent Mohd Rezan Yussop@Ariffin at 016-964 8706 or report to the nearest police station," he said. It was reported yesterday that a 57-year-old man was found dead in a pool of blood at his home, with authorities suspecting foul play involving a sharp weapon. The deceased, identified as Chang Kim Fuat, was discovered lying unconscious in the kitchen of his residence on Jalan Tawas Baru at 7.30pm on Tuesday. The victim's son, upon returning home from work, found the house in disarray and immediately alerted the authorities. Initial forensic findings indicated that the victim had suffered stab wounds to the right side of the abdomen and slash injuries to the right side of the chest. A wooden-handled knife, approximately 22cm long, was found in the kitchen sink. Although it had been cleaned, forensic swab tests suggest it may have been the murder weapon. Following this, police arrested a 31-year-old man to assist in the investigation into his father's death. He was detained at 12.15am yesterday. The man, who has no criminal record, has been remanded for seven days until next Tuesday.
