Police probe viral street brawl in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU: Police have launched an investigation into a street brawl involving a group of men that took place at Jalan Kebun Sultan here on May 23. Kota Baru district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the incident came to light at about 1.40pm today, after a video of the fight went viral on social media. "The video, which was uploaded to the Facebook page 'INFO Rakyat DALAM Kelantan-irdk', is one minute and 25 seconds long and shows several men getting out of two vehicles before assaulting individuals at the scene. "Initial investigations revealed that the incident occurred at about 4.27am on May 23," he said in a statement. He said police are working to identify all those involved, while the motive behind the altercation remains under investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons, which carries a penalty of up to five years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction. Mohd Rosdi advised the public not to speculate on the incident and to allow police to carry out their investigation. He urged those with information or who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist police.
