Father killed, daughter hurt in crash after university pickup
LIPIS: A father died and his 19-year-old daughter was injured when their car crashed into a road divider and plunged into a roadside drain while returning home after he picked her up from university.
The tragedy happened at Km30 of the Lingkaran Tengah Utama Expressway near Kampung Chegar Perah, Merapoh, yesterday.
The daughter who sustained minor injuries is studying in Kuala Lumpur.
Lipis police chief Superintendent Ismail Man said the 56-year-old deceased, Mohd Ruzi Mohd Yusof, from Kampung Lalang Pepayu, Tanah Merah, Kelantan, was driving a Proton Persona when the accident occurred.
"The father had picked up his daughter in Kuala Lumpur and was on his way back to their hometown in Tanah Merah. Initial investigations revealed the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into the road divider and veered into a drain on the left side of the road.
"Ruzi died on the spot. The case is being investigated for reckless or dangerous driving," he said in a statement today.
Ismail urged anyone who witnessed the accident or has relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
