Police looking for driver of black MPV seen in video overtaking dangerously
KUALA LUMPUR: Those with information about a luxury multipurpose vehicle seen in a social media video overtaking in a dangerous manner are urged to contact the police. A 10-second video circulating on social media shows several vehicles nearly forced off the road as a black MPV dangerously attempts to overtake a trailer lorry. Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the owner of the dashcam that recorded the video as well as those who witnessed the incident should come forward to help investigations. "We are also working on identifying where and when this incident occurred," he told the New Straits Times today. The video shows a blue Proton Wira and the the vehicle from which the footage was recorded slowing down and veering to the road shoulder as a black MPV is seen flashing its high beams lights while overtaking a lorry in the opposite lane. Yusri advised motorists to be patient and courteous when driving. "Always adhere to the traffic rules and avoid driving in a reckless and dangerous manner which puts all road users at risk. "We urge anyone with information on this incident to come forward immediately so that we can take action," he said.

Malaysians brace for 6 days of chaos as Asean summit shuts down Kuala Lumpur
Malaysians are bracing for major disruption next week as parts of Kuala Lumpur are shut down for six days to make way for foreign dignitaries attending the Asean summit, sparking public frustration over road closures, school closures and lost income. As chair of the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations this year, Malaysia has hosted a string of events across the country, with the capital bearing the brunt of traffic diversions and logistical lockdowns. Six highways, including key routes to Kuala Lumpur's two airports, and 25 other major roads will be closed. Schools along the affected routes have also been told to shut, with students instructed to study from home – a move that has drawn comparisons to pandemic-era restrictions. Local police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said on Monday evening that roads would be closed according to the needs of the attending delegations and the required level of safety. Road closures will begin as early as 7.30am and are expected to continue until 8pm throughout the summit. They will be timed to begin '30 minutes before the delegation starts to move and reopened after all official vehicles arrive at the designated location', Mohd Yusri said. The actual summit runs from Friday to May 28, but traffic police will also conduct a trial run on Wednesday and Thursday along the routes.

Asean Summit 2025: Police to conduct two-day traffic dry run starting tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR: Police will be conducting a large-scale dry run involving traffic control and road closures in preparation for the upcoming Asean Summit 2025, scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur. The rehearsal will be held on Wednesday and Thursday (May 21 - 2022), mirroring actual summit-day operations. It will simulate key aspects of summit logistics including motorcade movements, route and venue control as well as traffic flow management at hotels and the KLCC area. Six highways and 25 roads across the capital will be affected, with closures implemented according to the actual summit schedule. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the dry run aims to provide early awareness to road users regarding the routes that will be restricted during the event. "This on-site rehearsal will inform the public in advance about road closures and help ensure a smooth operation when the summit takes place," he said. The affected routes include those from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to various hotels in the city centre, KLCC, and Istana Negara. Road users are advised to avoid these areas during the dry run and to comply with traffic personnel instructions. Authorities are urging the public to cooperate fully to ensure Malaysia's preparedness as the summit's host nation.
