Mystics go cold late in the fourth quarter and fall to the Mercury
PHOENIX — Monique Akoa Makani scored 13 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer late in the fourth quarter, and the Phoenix Mercury defeated the Washington Mystics, 68-62, on Sunday. Phoenix took its final lead when Akoa Makani buried a three-pointer to make it 64-62 near the one-minute mark. She added two free throws with 14 seconds left and Alyssa Thomas finished it off with a pair from the line 11 seconds later.

Sonia Citron led Washington (2-3) with 14 points. Iriafen had 11 points and 13 rebounds and Brittney Sykes scored 10 points. Iriafren had seven turnovers and Citron had six. Phoenix Mercury vs. Washington Mystics: How to watch the game
The Phoenix Mercury are back at PHX Arena. The Mercury (2-1) will face the Washington Mystics (2-2) at 3 p.m. MST on May 25 for the first meeting of the season between the teams. Mercury star Kahleah Copper has yet to play in the 2025 season and is ruled out for the next four to six weeks after undergoing a successful left knee arthroscopy. Natasha Mack is week-to-week with a back injury and hasn't appeared this season. Guard Monique Akoa Makani, who has started in all three games, is questionable with a left knee issue.
