First music event is revealed at new Queen's Market in Rhyl
MonkeyWrench, a Foo Fighters tribute act based in Oswestry and Chester, will perform at the venue's events space on Saturday, October 25, along with a support act (7.30-11.15pm). This market, which has cost approximately £12.6million and is based by Rhyl's promenade, comprises 16 individual food and retail units, a double-sided bar, and a large events area. It is expected to welcome the public for the first time later this summer, though an opening date has yet to be confirmed. The MonkeyWrench gig has been organised jointly by market operator Midlands Events (Rhyl) Ltd, as well as Blood & Lipstick and We Rhyl Rock You. Queen's Market, Rhyl (Image: DCC) Tickets cost £8 in advance or £10 on the door, and will be available soon. A spokesperson for We Rhyl Rock You said: 'Further ticket details and links to tickets will be announced as soon as they have been finalised. 'More events will be announced as and when by ourselves, as well as Midland Events and any other promoters who happen to use the venue, and I do believe that the opening weekend will have entertainment every day. 'I hope the venue and events held there get the support from locals in particular. The more they are supported, the bigger the events will become. 'We are in talks with a few different artists and promoters about future events.' The Queen's Market's opening has been delayed by multiple companies and the council failing to reach an agreement regarding becoming the site's operator. The site went out to the open market via Sell2Wales in late 2022, but received no tender submissions. Midlands Events (Rhyl) Ltd was revealed as the venue's operator last month, and is a subsidiary of Telford-based Midlands Events Ltd, who Denbighshire County Council commissioned to assist with practicalities such as helping to secure vendors.

Josh Freese Theorizes Foo Fighters Firing: Constantly Whistling ‘My Hero,' Owning Too Many Poodles
As promised, former Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese has shared a winking list of the 10 possible reasons he might have been fired from the band. Freese revealed his ouster late last week, saying the Foo Fighters had told him they'd decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer,' and adding, 'No reason was given.' While Freese was grateful for his time in the band, he also admitted to being 'shocked and disappointed' by the decision. Still, he kept a sense of humor, promising fans, 'Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters' list.' More from Rolling Stone Watch Josh Freese Rip a 'Monkey Wrench' Solo at Last Public Gig With Foo Fighters Foo Fighters Part With Drummer Josh Freese Ed Sheeran Previews Collaboration With Dave Grohl, John Mayer That list arrived on Instagram Monday, May 19, and included such goofy fireable offenses as: 'Once whistled 'My Hero' for a week solid on tour'; 'Could only name one Fugazi song'; and 'Never even once tried growing a beard.' As for how his drumming may have contributed to his ouster, Freese joked that his 'Metronome-like precision behind the kit [was] deemed 'soulless,'' and that he demanded every rehearsal start 'with a 20 minute cowbell sound bath.' Another potential source of tension: 'Polyrhythms,' Freese quipped. Elsewhere, the drummer joked that he once missed a studio session 'because Mercury was in retrograde'; he 'refused to perform unless he was guaranteed an Ouija board and nunchucks after every show'; and he promised the Offspring's Noodles that he could be the Foo Fighters' fourth guitarist. ('But you PROMISED!' the actual Noodles quipped in the comments section.) But the number one reason for his firing, Freese joked: 'The whole poodle thing was getting to be a bit much.' (Indeed, Freese is deeply devoted to his many poodles.) Freese spent about two years with the Foo Fighters, joining the group in May 2023 to fill the vacancy left after Taylor Hawkins' sudden death the previous year. The Foo Fighters have yet to share a statement of their own regarding their decision to fire Freese, nor have they announced his replacement. The band has just one concert on the calendar for 2025, an Oct. 4 performance at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix. For One Weekend, Railers Will Rebrand As Worcester Monkey Wrenches
Worcester, Massachusetts is synonymous for a number of things, including the monkey wrench. Loring Coes, a knife manufacturer, invented a screw-based coach wrench design in 1840. It was patented a year later and sold throughout the United States. As a tribute to the Monkey Wrench and Worcester's rich history of innovation, the Worcester Railers will be rebranded as the Worcester Monkey Wrenches the weekend of February 28. The club will unveil three new logos, a specialty jersey, new merch including hats and t-shirts, a pennant giveaway on March 1, and more in a fun-filled weekend the whole family will enjoy. The weekend kicks off Feb. 28 at 7:05 Pm when the Monkey Wrenches host the Bloomington Bison. In keeping with all Friday home games, fans can enjoy $3 popcorn, $4 soda and $5 12-ounce Bud Light in the Bud Light Lounge. Puck drop for Day Two on Saturday is set for 6:05 Pm, also against the Bison. Presented by Country Bank, it will be the team's last night as the Monkey Wrenches, and limited edition Monkey Wrenches pennants will be given away, presented by Jed's Hardware. Game-worn Monkey Wrenches jerseys will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting Be Like Brit, a Central Massachusetts nonprofit dedicated to serving the children of Haiti by establishing a safe, nurturing and sustainable orphanage. Similar to the Florida Skunk Apes, Maine Wild Blueberries, Norfolk City Series and other rebrands around the ECHL, the Worcester Monkey Wrenches will celebrate the area's history and pay homage to its innovation. It's also a way for the club and its fans to give back to the community by supporting a local charity. It's a win-win for everyone.
