Orlando Pirates news: Mbokazi, Saleng, Mofokeng, Amankona

Orlando Pirates have several stars on the verge of being poached abroad. Alongside former PSL Player of the Year Patrick Maswanganyi, star defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Monnapule Saleng, and Relebohile Mofokeng are among those linked with moves abroad. The former has already received a R25.8 million bid from Zamalek FC, while city rivals Al Ahly, Jose Riveiro's new club, are eyeing teenager Mbokazi. Regarding Monnapule Saleng, the jury is still out as to whether he will stay or go. However, having not featured since early December, the assumption is that it will be the latter. According to reports, Ghana Premier League leading goalscorer Stephen Amankona is being offered to the PSL's big three – Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. 'Stephen's contract is ending soon and this is a great opportunity for him to explore new challenges. He's been introduced to a few clubs in South Africa and there's been some interest. The big teams are being considered seriously.' Sekhukhune defender Vuyo Letlapa and Orlando Pirates target could be heading overseas amid OGC Nice interest. 'There are local teams which have shown interest and Pirates were believed to be in the forefront to sign him but apparently the French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice is the one leading now,' Soccer Laduma noted. 'They are very close to closing the deal. Remember, we spoke about European interest before. And just like they did with Elias Mokwana to Esperance de Tunis, they are including a 30% sell on clause to the next club agreement on the deal.' 'So, if Nice sells Vuyo then Sekhukhune United will get 30% from that deal. That's why they are looking at R20m for now.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Orlando Pirates star following Riveiro to Al Ahly?

Jose Riveiro, formerly with Orlando Pirates is headed to Egyptian giants Al Ahly. His former winger Monnapule Saleng is also linked with the Red Devils. 'With Jose Riveiro set to be unveiled at Al Ahly, reports about when negotiations between the two parties started have revived speculation of Monnapule Saleng possibly following suit,' Kick Off reported. 'The Spaniard could not deny the possibility of signing one of Pirates players for his new club, although he stressed he would not be directly involved. The former Buccaneer said: 'Orlando Pirates is full of talent, future prospects, but that's not my role. In modern football, we as coaches obviously have a say in players who are coming and going, but it belongs to the strategical side of the business, in this case for Orlando Pirates and whichever club that wants to have a look of our talents here' Riveiro said on 947's MSW . Will Orlando Pirates' Monnapule Saleng will play against Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby?

NO SURPRISE Monnapule Saleng is unlikely to feature for Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs amid ongoing wage dispute speculation. Picture: Sydney Mahlangu/BackpagePix While the debate over who will come away victorious in the Soweto Derby rages on until kick-off, one issue which will not dish up any hint of a surprise is that Monnapule Saleng will likely play no part for Orlando Pirates against Kaizer Chiefs. With the reason for Saleng's nearly five-month absence narrowed down to a wage dispute with the club (although this is still speculation), it's highly unlikely he will be a surprise inclusion in the Pirates match-day squad in the Betway Premiership clash set for 3pm on Saturday at FNB Stadium. However, given the importance of the fixture, Pirates will need every asset at their disposal. Throughout the Saleng saga, his ability has never been in question. It's for that reason that it's a mark against Pirates that they have been unable to resolve the issue, if indeed it is a wage dispute.

Monnapule Saleng expected to feature against Arrows

Orlando Pirates winger Monnapule Saleng could feature in their next match against Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening. The 27-year-old was teased by the club on Monday during their training session. He was pictures training with teammates as they prepare to play their final league matches of the season. Having lost out in the Nedbank Cup final to Kaizer Chiefs, the Buccaneers will look to finish the season on a high. Tuesday's encounter with Arrows will be Jose Riveiro's last match for Pirates, as he had requested an early release. The Spaniard led the team to five trophies in the three seasons he's been at the club. Saleng has not kicked a ball for the Buccaneers in five months. He last featured for the team in December last year against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group stage match. He was, however, called to the Bafana Bafana squad for the CHAN qualifiers, playing one match. Orlando Pirates host Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium on Tuesday evening, looking to add to their point tally, having already secured second place on the log. Monnapule Saleng and the likes of Miguel Timm might get some minutes in the final matches of the season. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng in career freefall

Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng in career freefall amid contract chaos. Saleng's once-promising fourth season at Orlando Pirates has turned into a frustrating nightmare. Instead of building on his earlier success, the attacking midfielder now finds himself sidelined, wrapped in a fog of contract uncertainty and career stagnation. Saleng's struggles began when contractual issues with Orlando Pirates came to light earlier this season. Despite kicking off the campaign with five goals and one assist in just 13 appearances, he has since disappeared from the pitch. Insiders claim the 27-year-old feels underpaid, reportedly earning R70,000 a month—far below what his performances warrant. Whispers in the football world suggest he could walk away on a free transfer and join Kaizer Chiefs, despite rumors that Pirates have already triggered a two-year extension on his deal. Whatever the truth, one thing is clear: Saleng is losing out. 'Saleng has sunk deep into the wilderness since his contractual issues at Pirates surfaced earlier this season.' Since his last appearance on December 7, 2024, against Al Ahly, Saleng has not featured in a single game. The Buccaneers have played 27 matches without him and are set to complete the season with six more, including Saturday's high-stakes Nedbank Cup final, a stage where Saleng once thrived. The absence has not only hurt his momentum but also threatens his market value. With over five months of competitive inactivity, Saleng's worth is beginning to plummet. This year, Saleng has played just once—in a CHAN qualifiers home leg against Egypt, which ended in a 1-1 draw. That solitary cap marks a stark contrast to his breakout seasons with the Pirates. In his first season back from loan at Moroka Swallows, Saleng exploded with 26 goal contributions. He scored the winner in the MTN8 final and assisted in the Nedbank Cup final, helping Pirates clinch silverware under Jose Riveiro's debut campaign. Last season, Saleng kept up the momentum, adding 10 more goals and assists to his name, which even caught the eye of an unknown UAE side. 'He scored the winner in the MTN8 final and then provided an assist in the Nedbank Cup decider.' Unless something changes dramatically, Saleng is on track to end the season with more questions than answers. His talent is undeniable, but as long as the contract standoff lingers, the spotlight will remain out of reach. Stay tuned with The South African as Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng in career freefall. Will we ever see Saleng again on the big stage?
