Man accused of homicide in fatal Cheat Lake bridge case refuses to waive extradition
Video: Previous coverage of Singh Sukhjinder's arrest in Fontana, California. MORGANTOWN, (WBOY) — Singh Sukhjinder, the man charged with negligent homicide in relation to Kevin Lataille's death in Cheat Lake, will, for the time being, remain in California, where he was arrested last week. In a press release Tuesday night, the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office announced that Sukhjinder has refused to waive his extradition regarding his negligent homicide charge. Officials with the sheriff's office said they are working with the Monongalia County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to secure a Governor's Warrant through Gov. Patrick Morrisey's office. According to California-based law firm Eisner Gorin LLP, Governor's warrants must be issued by the governor of the state where the fugitive is located—in this case Gov. Gavin Newsom of California—after a demanding state has requested that the fugitive be returned to it for trial. Woman struck 2 officers after shoplifting from White Hall Walmart, officers say Sukhjinder has been the subject of news since his identity and charges were released on March 3, including last week when a man believed to be Sukhjinder was wrongfully arrested in Phoenix, Arizona. The man was released shortly after, and the real Sukhjinder was arrested in Fontana, California a few days later. The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office said it remains 'committed to ensuring justice is served and will provide further updates as this process progresses.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
