Maryland man wins six-digit lottery prize for the third time

A Maryland man scored a $100,000 prize from a scratch-off lottery ticket after previously collecting lottery prizes of $100,000 and $250,000. File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo May 30 (UPI) -- A devoted Maryland Lottery scratch-off ticket player scored a $100,000 prize -- his third time winning a six-digit payout. The Bowie man told Maryland Lottery officials he bought a Monopoly X50 ticket from Forbes BP at 9701 Annapolis Road in Lanham using $10 he borrowed from his wife. The player recalled how he convinced his wife to give him the cash by saying: "You know I'm going to split it with you anyway." The ticket ended up earning the man -- and his wife -- a $100,000 prize. The player previously visited Maryland Lottery headquarters in 2022 to collect a $250,000 prize from a $250,000 Gold Rush ticket. A few years earlier, he won $100,000 from another scratch-off game. The player said he will keep buying scratch-off tickets until he hits an even larger prize. "Now I'm looking for a $1 million or $2 million win, then I'm done," he said. The winner said his latest prize will go toward new cabinets in his kitchen, new windows in the entire house and starting college funds for his grandchildren.

Wife rushes to screaming husband discovering lottery win — then ‘danced with joy'

As a man was celebrating Easter Sunday with family, he was just about ready 'to fire up the grill.' But there was one problem: 'He was out of propane,' Maryland Lottery officials said in an April 22 news release. The Charles County man made his way to a La Plata store, a trip that led him to a big lottery win. While he was at the store, the man remembered 'he had two old scratch-offs in his pocket, he checked them,' lottery officials said. After learning they weren't winners, he decided to try his luck and buy another ticket: a Monopoly X50 scratch-off, lottery officials said. Hours later, as the man was 'relaxing on the couch,' he scratched his ticket and learned he won a $50,000 prize, lottery officials said. 'I screamed 'No way!' at the top of my lungs,' he told lottery officials. Concerned, his wife rushed over, lottery officials said. Soon, after they confirmed the win using the lottery app, she joined 'him in shock and celebration,' lottery officials said. As the two 'danced with joy,' their children soon followed suit, lottery officials said. 'We're still in shock,' he said in the release. The winner told lottery officials he plans to spend his prize on home renovations and take his wife on a vacation. La Plata is about a 65-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Lottery player ‘wasn't expecting that much money' when ticket revealed big prize

A Maryland lottery player was in disbelief after winning a huge prize from a scratch-off game, lottery officials said. The lucky player won $50,000 playing Monopoly X50, the Maryland Lottery said in a Feb. 11 news release. The man told lottery officials he scratched off the numbers that revealed a x50 multiplier first, so he had a good feeling about the ticket. 'I thought it was going to be $10 under there,' he told lottery officials. 'In that case, $500 would have been nice.' But when he scratched off the prize amount of $1,000, he realized he had won a much bigger prize. 'I couldn't believe it. I wasn't expecting that much money,' he told lottery officials. He bought his lucky winning ticket at a gas station in Dundalk, about a 10-mile drive southeast from Baltimore, the lottery said. The Monopoly X50 game started in January, according to lottery officials. The odds of winning are 1 in 3.29. Eight $100,00 prizes and nine $50,000 prizes remain, according to the lottery website. The game features other prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.

Man seeking ‘energy boost' goes on coffee run. But lottery ticket gave the real jolt

A man wanted a 'little energy boost,' so he went on a coffee run, Maryland Lottery officials said. But the real jolt of energy came from the lottery prize he won. The landscaper was on his way home late at night when he decided he needed a cup of coffee, according to a Feb. 6 news release by the Maryland Lottery. While buying his coffee in Denton, he also picked up a Monopoly X50 instant ticket because he is fond of scratch-off games, officials said. 'I buy tickets all the time,' the Severna Park resident told lottery officials. 'It's fun, and I win often enough to keep me going.' But he had no idea this 'spur of the moment' purchase would land him $100,000. The man scratched the ticket in the parking lot and his heart started pounding and his legs began to shake, officials said. 'I stared at it for a minute or two until the shock wore off. I think I said out loud, 'There's no way this is happening,'' he told officials. 'Even though it said $100,000, I just couldn't believe it. I still can't.' Officials didn't specify what the man is planning for his winnings. Denton is about a 70-mile drive southeast of Baltimore.
