The victory was a first for Aprilia since the Grand Prix of the Americas last year. LCR Honda's Johann Zarco came second and Ducati's Marc Marquez pipped Franco Morbidelli to finish third and extend his lead in the world championship. Both Alex Marquez and his brother Marc crashed while leading before the race was restarted for an oil spill while polesitter Fabio Quartararo took the lead at the second time of asking before being forced to retire due to an issue with his bike. Bezzecchi's victory was his first since the 2023 Indian Grand Prix and the Italian also became the 11th different winner at Silverstone in the last 11 races. Quartararo pips Marquez brothers to pole at MotoGP
LE MANS: Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP team's French motoGP rider Fabio Quartararo sits on the pits prior to take part in a France Moto GP Grand Prix free practice session at the Le Mans Circuit. – AFP LE MANS: Home rider Fabio Quartararo secured his second successive pole by smashing the Le Mans lap record in qualifying on Saturday at the French MotoGP. The 26-year-old former world champion snatched top spot right at the end of the session from Marc Marquez with a lap of 1min 29.34sec on his factory Yamaha, ensuring he will start from the front in Saturday's sprint and the main race on Sunday. Alex Marquez, who is one point clear of his older brother at the top of the championship standings after winning in Spain last month, qualified in third place. Following an unexpected second-place finish last time out in Jerez, Quartararo continued his revival with a blistering final lap to upstage Ducati's Marc Marquez, the pole-sitter at the first four races of the season. 'It's remarkable to be on pole here at Le Mans in front of all the French fans,' said Quartararo. 'The aim was to be on the front row but I never expected to be on pole and set such a time. I don't know if it's the best pole position of my career, but with so many fans, it's really special. 'Now we're going to get out in front and try to do a good race.' It was Quartararo's 18th career pole. His pole two weeks ago at the Spanish Grand Prix was his first since 2022. The new lap record came just 24 hours after Marc Marquez had broken the previous mark set last year by reigning world champion Jorge Martin, who remains sidelined after a brutal crash in Qatar on his return from injury. 'Fabio is riding in an incredible way, he deserved this pole position in front of his fans,' said Marc Marquez. 'He's doing an amazing job, already in Jerez he was super fast.' 'I didn't make any mistakes. I did a clean lap, but he was just quicker than me,' the Spaniard added. Spanish rookie Fermin Aldeguer, Alex Marquez's Ducati-Gresini team-mate, claimed fourth ahead of Maverick Vinales with Italian two-time former world champion Francesco Bagnaia completing the second row. – AFP

Motorcycling-Quartararo breaks lap record on home soil to take French GP pole
MotoGP - French Grand Prix - Bugatti Circuit, Le Mans, France - May 10, 2025 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo celebrates after qualifying in pole position REUTERS/Stephane Mahe LE MANS, France (Reuters) -Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo smashed the lap record in front of a sellout crowd at Le Mans on Saturday as the Frenchman snatched pole position from Ducati's Marc Marquez for the French Grand Prix. Having broken the lap record at the circuit in Friday's practice, Marquez went even faster early in the second qualifying session to set the tone for Q2. Quartararo, however, managed to complete one more lap to clock one minute 29.324 seconds as the home crowd erupted and sang "La Marseillaise", the country's national anthem, even as the Frenchman urged them to calm down. "It was amazing to get this pole position, thanks to all the fans supporting us. It's a really important pole position but we need to get the points later and on Sunday," Quartararo said. It also marked the first time since his championship-winning season in 2021 that he had clinched back-to-back pole positions having gone fastest at the Spanish Grand Prix. "Fabio rode in an incredible way, he deserves this pole position in front of his fans. He was doing a superb job in Jerez (at the Spanish Grand Prix) too," Marquez said. "But I'm happy with my pace and starting on the front row was my main target." World championship leader Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing was third fastest and his team mate Fermin Aldeguer will start on the second row alongside KTM Tech3's Maverick Vinales and Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia. Motorcycling-Yamaha's Quartararo denies Marquez his home Spanish MotoGP pole
Motorcycling - MotoGP - Valencia Grand Prix - Circuit Recardo Tormo, Valencia, Spain - November 26, 2023 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP's Fabio Quartararo before the race REUTERS/Pablo Morano JEREZ, Spain (Reuters) -Frenchman Fabio Quartararo beat crowd favourite and six-times MotoGP champion Marc Marquez to take pole position at the Spanish motorcycle Grand Prix at the Circuito de Jerez on Saturday, where the lap record was broken twice. Championship leader Marquez looked on course for a fifth successive pole after he sped to a time of one minute and 35.643 seconds early in the second qualifying, but Quartararo put on a blistering lap in the final moments to stun the Ducati rider. The 26-year-old Yamaha rider clocked a time of one minute and 35.610 seconds to take his first pole since 2022. Twice MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia came third to complete the front row. "It's a really special feeling, a special emotion for everybody," Quartararo said. "We know that the points are on the sprint and the race, but already to feel the atmosphere close to all these guys is something. "Hopefully, we can make a great fight on the sprint, on the race we know it's a little more difficult. But super happy to be here. We are working hard and the work will pay off." Gresini's Alex Marquez was the fourth fastest, ahead of Franco Morbidelli of VR46 Racing in fifth. Marquez leads his younger brother Alex by 17 points in the championship and Italian Bagnaia in third by 26. He has the opportunity to stretch it further in the sprint, which will be held later on Saturday. (Reporting by Pearl Josephine Nazare in Bengaluru; Editing by Andrew Cawthorne)
