13 people displaced after fire raged through townhomes in Gaithersburg

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — Officials said 13 people and several pets are without a place to live after a fire tore through their homes in Gaithersburg Friday morning. Minutes before 5:30 a.m. on May 16, multiple calls came in for a fire at a townhouse in the 11900 block of Roan Lane, according to David Pazos, with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services. Governor Moore declares State of Emergency in Western Maryland due to historic flooding Once crews arrived, firefighters found flames spreading from the back of two three-story townhouses to a third adjoining home. Pazos noted that families safely escaped the blaze with their pets. 'Both of the fires are extinguished, but crews are checking for extensions. We will be here in Gaithersburg for a while,' said Pazos on social media. The fire left 13 people, including seven adults, six children and six pets, displaced, according to officials. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — Traffic on I-270 in Montgomery County was at a standstill Thursday morning after a commercial street sweeper went up in flames. Details are limited; however, Pete Piringer, with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, said the fire happened in the northbound lanes, near Clarksburg Road. MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. () — Several families were displaced after a fire damaged multiple townhomes in Montgomery Village early Friday morning. In a , Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services said crews responded to the 10200 block of Cove Ledge Court just before 4 a.m. for a two-alarm fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found large flames spreading from the back of a townhouse. 'It appears as though it started on the outside and extended up into the attic area,' said Piringer. WATCH: Florida residents record SpaceX explosion About 75 firefighters worked on the scene and crews assisted multiple people out of the building. In an update around 6:45 a.m., Piringer said the fire was out; however, about 17 people were displaced and at least six homes were damaged. No one was hurt in the fire. Ride-on buses arrived at the apartment complex and took families to a temporary shelter. Investigators are working to determine what started the blaze.
