Tip leads to discovery of gun, ammo in Montgomery County student's car
MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (FOX 56) — Administrators say that an anonymous tip led to the discovery of a handgun in a student's vehicle on Friday afternoon at Montgomery County High School.
In a letter to families dated March 28, Superintendent Matthew Thompson said administrators received an anonymous tip through the Safe Schools tip line shortly before the end of the school day claiming a student had a weapon in their vehicle.

Authorities and administrators reportedly immediately began investigating and found an unloaded handgun locked in a gun safe in the trunk of the student's car. According to the letter, the safe also contained ammunition.
'At no time was anyone in danger, nor was the weapon removed from the locked gun safe,' Thompson said.
