Kraken Defenseman Leading The Way For Team Canada's Blue Line
Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour is leading the way for Team Canada's World Championship roster as they near the end of the group stage. Through five games, the 31-year-old has scored two goals and nine points, tied for second among Canadian players. Leading the way for Canada is Nathan MacKinnon with 10 points, followed closely behind by Sidney Crosby and Brandon Montour. Canada has a perfect record through five games, outscoring their opponents 28-2. They have two games remaining in the group stage, against France on Monday and Sweden on Tuesday. Canada's matchup against Sweden will likely be the game which settles who finishes first in Group A. Montour has been a catalyst on the backend, outscoring the next closest defenseman on Team Canada by six points. The Ohsweken, ON native, has shown great chemistry with Canada's top players, particularly Crosby. He's quarterbacked the top unit, and he's a major reason why Canada's power play has been so efficient. Canada has high hopes of winning the World Championship, and Montour will play a big role if they succeed. Stay updated with the most interesting Kraken stories, analysis, breaking news and more! Firefighters raise concerns over 911 Centers consolidation
SUNBURY, NORTHUMBERLAND COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The future of Northumberland County's 911 Center is raising concerns among volunteer firefighters. Many attended Tuesday's commissioners meeting to voice their frustrations over a potential merger with neighboring counties. While commissioners say no decisions have been made, volunteers worry about the cost and impact on emergency response. The potential consolidation of Northumberland and Schuylkill County 911 centers has volunteer firefighters on edge. The county recently approved a study to see if merging operations would be financially beneficial. For those who rely on the system every day, change means uncertainty. 'We stand to lose the most; we, the volunteer fire service, stands to lose the most with these communication questions, and we want to be involved, and we have the knowledge to be involved,' said Warrior Run Fire Department Chief Douglas Funk. County commissioners reassured firefighters that the study is purely exploratory, emphasizing that no decisions have been made yet 'In the past few months, we've been working with Columbia, Montour to do a study, and we've also been talking to Schuylkill County to do a study, so we're just waiting to see, you know, when these studies come back at the end of the year. What's the best course for Northumberland County to take?' Northumberland County Commissioner Sam Schiccatano stated. Nonprofit spotlights Sexual Assault Awareness Month One concern for firefighters is cost, since they operate on tight budgets. They say any changes to 911 operations and radio systems could mean significant expenses 'When it comes down to the local volunteer fire companies in the municipalities just not being able to fund another upgrade to go onto another system, it's just not compatible with what we already have,' Elysburg Fire Department Chief Dennis Kroh stated. Commissioners say they will include all departments in the decision-making process once the results are in. 'So when these studies come back sometime in November, December, we'll be meeting with the firefighters, police officers, anyone who uses 911, and you know, meet and decide what's best for us,' Schiccatano added. Commissioners say these studies are not costing taxpayers anything. They are being funded by PEMA. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Brandon Montour scores fastest goal in NHL overtime history as Kraken rally past Canadiens
Overtime had just started in Wednesday night's game between the Seattle Kraken and Montreal Canadiens. Four seconds later, Brandon Montour ended the game with a quick shot. It was the fastest overtime goal in the history of the NHL, with Montour's game-winning shot completing Seattle's 5-4 comeback. After being down two goals in the third period, Jani Nyman scored and Matty Beniers tied it up with just minutes left to bring the game into overtime. Advertisement To start overtime, Seattle's Chandler Stephenson squared off against Montreal's Christian Dvorak. The puck squirted toward Montreal's zone off the draw, with Montour immediately skating toward the loose puck, easily beating Canadiens rookie defenseman Lane Hudson. The Kraken defenseman made no mistake, getting it past Montreal goalie Jakub Dobeš. SHEESH, TAKE WAS QUICK! 💨 Brandon Montour scores the @Energizer overtime winner just FOUR seconds into the extra frame! — NHL (@NHL) March 13, 2025 Three other players have scored goals within four seconds of the start of a period in NHL history, all in regulation, including Claude Provost for the Canadiens in 1957, Denis Savard for the Chicago Blackhawks in 1986 and James van Riemsdyk for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2014. Montour is the first to score so quickly in overtime. It is not the first time the Canadiens are in the record books for the fastest overtime goal. The club still holds the record for the quickest OT goal in the playoffs when Brian Skrudland beat Calgary's Mike Vernon just nine seconds into the first overtime period in Game 2 of the 1986 Stanley Cup Final. Montreal won the series in five games to capture its 23rd Cup. It was Montour's second goal of the game Wednesday night, and he added two assists, bringing his total to 15 goals and 21 assists so far this season. It's the defenseman's third game-winning goal this season and his fourth career overtime goal. As for Dobeš, the loss brings his record to 6-3-2, with a .907 save percentage and a GAA of 2.71 in 12 games played this season. Currently in seventh place in the Pacific Division, the win brings the Kraken to 28-34-4. Montreal is in fifth in the Atlantic Division with a 31-27-7 record.
