3 rom-coms on Amazon Prime Video you need to watch in May 2025

Table of Contents Table of Contents Moonstruck (1987) Employee of the Month (2006) Sweet on You (2023) You might love to binge a new show or an exciting action movie. Yet sometimes you're in the mood for something light, fluffy, and predictable. Rom-coms fit the bill. There are three rom-coms on Amazon Prime Video you need to watch in May 2025. Each movie is very different, the oldest dating back to 1987. You have probably seen at least one of these movies already, but likely not for a while. With them available to stream now all for free (yes, no subscription needed!), it's prime time for a rewatch. Recommended Videos Need more recommendations? Then check out the best new movies to stream this week, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Moonstruck (1987) Cher won an Academy Award for her role in this rom-com about Loretta, a widowed woman who falls in love again. However, it's not with Johnny (Danny Aiello), her fiancé, but rather his estranged younger brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage). They begin a torrid affair as their relationship and lives are plagued by torment, guilt, and superstitions. Moonstruck is one of those essential rom-coms everyone needs to watch at least once and revel in Cage's memorable, overly theatrical scene screaming about his missing hand. It's also one of the best romance movies of all time —sweet, fun, and tearjerking. Stream Moonstruck on Amazon Prime Video. Employee of the Month (2006) Looking for something silly? Employee of the Month is downright ridiculous, a love letter to big-box stores. In fact, it was primarily shot in a Costco. Slacker Zack (Dane Cook) is an employee at the fictional Super Club. Zack hates that his rival, Vince (Dax Shepard), constantly receives the Employee of the Month award. The rivalry intensifies when both men vie for the affection of the attractive new employee, Amy (Jessica Simpson). Believing she might repeat what she did at her last job — sleep with the Employee of the Month — gives Zack the kick in the butt he needs to start working harder and try and earn the title and bag the girl. Employee of the Month is one of those movies that's so bad, it's good. If you're into workplace comedies and goofy, frat-boy, juvenile humor, it might be the type of rom-com to watch. Stream Employee of the Month on Amazon Prime Video. Sweet on You (2023) A TV movie starring Haylie Duff and Rob Mayes, Sweet on You has Hallmark movie style written all over it. Kate (Duff) owns the famous pie shop in town and enjoys living her simple life. She's also grieving the loss of her mother. When Drew (Mayes), a city guy and real estate agent, comes to town to see the land he recently inherited, her life is changed forever. Sweet on You is ooey gooey rom-com predictability. There's the small-town girl going through a tough time. There's the big city guy as a fish out of water. Plus, there's the big dilemma: if Drew sells the land he now owns, Kate's shop goes with it. Like a delicious pie, you know the story will end with something sweet. But mixing the ingredients and assembling the proverbial pie to get there is where the fun lies. Stream Sweet on You on Amazon Prime Video.

Nicolas Cage's Best Performances Onscreen

We've reached the point in Nicolas Cage's career when it's easiest to refer to every new movie he's in by just describing his antics in them. Dracula Cage, terrible boss — that's 'Renfield.' Moody chef Cage, retriever of beloved animal — that's 'Pig.' Serial killer Cage, servant of Satan — that's 'Longlegs.' The tactic works because it's easy to imagine Cage donning any of those guises, and a thousand more besides. Many a commenter has noted Cage's propensity for roles that can be described only as crazy, but the actor's career is too expansive, and often more nuanced, to be reduced to his unhinged characters. Tell me he's going to play, I don't know, a ballet master or a mob boss or an enraged father (as in his latest movie, 'The Surfer') and I'll believe you, because Cage has proved that he contains multitudes, over and over again. Sometimes he even plays more than one guy in the same movie — as in my favorite of his films, 'Adaptation,' in which he appears as twins. That means the best way to get a grip on Cage as an artist is to consider him through his many faces. Even when he occasionally takes that face, um, off. 'Moonstruck' (1987) Video Credit Credit... Early on, Cage worked to establish a career apart from his family name. (The 'Godfather' director Francis Ford Coppola is his uncle, and the directors Roman and Sofia Coppola and the actor Jason Schwartzman are his cousins.) He managed it swiftly in a string of movies that included many performances as a tousled, passionate, somewhat unpredictable young man. What shines through each is a full-bodied commitment to whatever the character's emotional reality is — all the roiling desires, the suffering, the ecstasy. A great representative performance from this era is his turn as the lovelorn hothead Ronny, who's smitten with his brother's fiancée (Cher) in the 1987 romantic comedy 'Moonstruck.' Ronny may be missing a hand thanks to a freak bread-slicer accident, but he's not missing any gallantry, rough-hewn as it is. It's a charming, uncouth, amorous role, and versions of that Cage show up in the Coen brothers' 'Raising Arizona' (1987) and David Lynch's 'Wild at Heart' (1990). Amy Schumer Lists Her 200-Year-Old Brooklyn Townhouse for $14 Million

In early 2022 Amy Schumer hoisted her Manhattan penthouse on the market and picked up a renovated and restored 19th-century townhouse in Brooklyn. Fast forward almost three years, and the comedian and actress has decided to pull up stakes again and return to the Upper West Side, hoisting her Federal-style residence in historic Brooklyn Heights up for sale at $14 million. Adam Modlin of Modlin Group and Karen and Kyle Talbott of Corcoran Group hold the listing. Records show The Kinda Pregnant and I Feel Pretty star and her chef husband Chris Fischer acquired the early 1800s property in summer 2022 for nearly $12.3 million and then customized it to suit their personal tastes. Standing out on the first floor is a kitchen outfitted with an exposed beam ceiling, wide-plank floors, vintage wood cabinetry, a marble-topped island, top-tier Gaggenau and Lacanche appliances, a butler's pantry with a zinc bar sink, and a breakfast nook. An adjacent wood-paneled bedroom-turned-library connects to a mudroom, which opens to a Michael Van Valkenburgh-landscaped backyard that currently holds a turf-clad play area but could easily be repurposed as a private gated parking space. The main entrance on the second level leads to a duo of fireside parlors divided by large pocketing doors, plus a powder room and access to an iron-railed terrace with steps descending to the backyard. A grand primary suite occupying the entire third floor has a corner bedroom warmed by an original fireplace, as well as dressing and sitting rooms, an office, and a marble bath flaunting another fireplace, dual vanities, a vintage clawfoot soaking tub, and a floating glass-encased shower. Three more bedrooms that share a penny-tiled bath can be found on the top floor, along with a Miele washer and dryer. Rounding it all out in style is the basement, which hosts a custom wine cellar, an excavated gym, and full laundry facilities. Per The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the listing, the New York native has decided to sell because she and her husband want to be closer to their 5-year-old son's school in Manhattan. John Cale review – 83 years old and still forging deeper underground

John Cale is 83 years old. Live, it would be more than understandable to find a musician of that age in a period of slowing down and winding up, cranking out the hits to please old fans. John Cale is absolutely not doing that. An early outing of Captain Hook, a sprawling avant art-rock deep cut from a 1979 live album, sets the tone for an evening that is less about delivering the obvious and more about showcasing the staggering breadth and depth of his songcraft. Sitting almost permanently behind a keyboard, Cale doesn't give his masterly viola skills an outing tonight, but he sounds in remarkable voice for a man returning after several cancelled shows and four days on doctor-ordered vocal rest. Under a deep red light, Cale and his band play a tense, moody-bordering-on-menacing take on Elvis's Heartbreak Hotel, although the heavy-handed delivery of The Endless Plain of Fortune fares less well, feeling drained of all its subtlety and tenderness. There's a double tribute to Cale's beloved late friend and collaborator Nico, via a groove-locked Moonstruck (Nico's Song) and a deeply textural, atmospheric and moving version of her 1968 track Frozen Warnings, with the immersive sound of a bow scratching against bass strings filling the room like a dense fog. Cale forgoes the predictable once again and ends on Villa Albani, a song from Caribbean Sunset, an album so out of print it's not even officially on streaming: he turns it from a piece of strutting funk-rock into an almost psychedelic jam. The house lights go up and masses of bodies are already out of the door when Cale and co return and those unmistakable piano stabs of the Velvet Underground's I'm Waiting for the Man ring out. As confused audience members pile back in, the band develop it into a wonderfully elongated and grinding version. By the end of its fiery and hypnotic charge, it feels almost unrecognisable from its beginnings. In his ninth decade, Cale remains more interested in forging new paths than retreading the familiar.
