Two men in hospital after reports of stabbings in Newport

DETECTIVES are investigating reported stabbings in Newport. News of a violence at an address in Lliswerry Road first started circulating online on the morning of June 7. Locals said they were confused as to why there was a heavy police presence at a property opposite Eschol Close. (Image: NQ) A Gwent Police spokesperson said: 'We received two reports of violence between 6.50am and 7.10am on Saturday 7 June in the Newport area. 'A man, described as white and in his forties, reportedly attended two addresses – the first in Moorland Park and the second in Lliswerry Road – and assaulted the occupants of each property. 'A 49-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were taken to hospital for treatment. "Their injuries are not thought to be life-changing or life threatening.' (Image: NQ) Senior investigation officer, DCI Steven Thomas said: 'At this time it is believed that the two incidents are linked, and officers are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances. 'We understand that the nature of these incidents is concerning, however we would ask people not to speculate at this time. 'We'd like to speak to anyone who was in the areas of Moorland Park or Lliswerry Road between 6am and 7.30am on Saturday who may have witnessed the altercation.' Emergency services rushed to two properties in a Welsh city after reports of separate assaults within minutes of each other. Police officers and ambulance crews attended the scenes of two alleged assaults at separate addresses in Newport. A white man in his 40s is believed to have entered homes in Lliswerry Road and Moorland Park at around 7am on Saturday, June 7, and assaulted the occupants. Two men, one aged 49 and another aged 53, were taken to hospital with serious injuries. The Welsh Ambulance Service transferred the patients to hospital while Gwent Police officers put a cordon around the properties. Crime scene investigators attended the scene and remained there for the entire day. "We sent one emergency ambulance, two operations managers, and one Cymru High Acuity Response Unit to the scene. "Advanced critical care support was delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity car. "One patient was conveyed to hospital for further treatment."
