Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE) has announced a major update to its private cloud portfolio. The new offerings aim to transform how enterprises modernize hybrid IT environments.
The enhanced portfolio combines enterprise-grade software for virtualized workloads with unified cloud management. It also features disaggregated infrastructure, which reduces complexity and boosts efficiency.
On May 19, 2025, from the United Arab Emirates, HPE revealed several major developments: HPE Private Cloud Business Edition now includes HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, supporting multi-hypervisor environments and self-service cloud consumption. This update reportedly cuts virtual machine license costs by up to 90%.
HPE claims its disaggregated hyper converged infrastructure (dHCI) offers a 2.5X lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
The HPE Morpheus Software family is now available, featuring VM Essentials and HPE Morpheus Enterprise for unified cloud management.
According to HPE, both software solutions include the HVM hypervisor and are licensed per-socket to reduce costs. Customers using VM Essentials can upgrade to Morpheus Enterprise as needed.
HPE also introduced new services to simplify virtualization modernization for organizations of any size.
Fidelma Russo, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Hybrid Cloud and CTO at HPE, stated that enterprises need to manage escalating complexity and rising virtualization costs. She noted that HPE's solution delivers the simplicity and flexibility needed to stay competitive.
HPE emphasized that the Business Edition, available as dHCI or HCI, supports workloads across edge and data center environments. It allows customers to mix and manage HPE and traditional VMs.
The company reported that its AI-driven infrastructure setup and AIOps can predict and prevent up to 86% of issues. This results in lower resource use and more reliable operations.
Customer feedback highlights the impact. Aeropuertos Argentina reported significant savings and operational improvements with the Business Edition. It supports mission-critical airport workloads and has enhanced service delivery and efficiency.
HPE also revealed that Commvault will be the first ecosystem partner for VM Essentials. The upcoming release in May will support image-based VM backup and recovery.
Furthermore, HPE introduced HPE Morpheus Enterprise Software for larger enterprises. It allows unified management of virtualized, container-based, and third-party workloads across on-prem, bare metal, and public cloud.
The company reported that Morpheus Enterprise can speed up app deployment by up to 150 times and lower cloud costs by 30% through analytics-powered rightsizing.
HPE confirmed that both VM Essentials and Morpheus Enterprise are hardware-agnostic. They are validated for Dell PowerEdge, NetApp AFF arrays, and HPE ProLiant Gen 11 and Gen 12 servers.
The Gen 12 servers can cut virtualization software costs by 27%, power use by 65%, and reduce data center footprint by a factor of 7:1.
Combining VM Essentials with HPE Aruba Networking CX 10000 reduces TCO by up to 48%, boosts performance by 10 times, and enhances security through DPU acceleration and microsegmentation.
Storage management is also simplified through integration with HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000.
Finally, HPE launched Cloud Platform Services – Virtualization Modernization. These services support assessments, landing zones, workload re-platforming, infrastructure upgrades, data migration, training, and management.
HPE was recently named a Leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Hybrid IT Infrastructure Consulting and Integration Services 2025 Vendor Assessment.
