Broncos roster: Wil Lutz (No. 3) enters Year 3 after record-tying 2024 campaign
Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at tenth-year kicker Wil Lutz, No. 3.
Before the Broncos: Lutz (5-11, 184 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia State with the Baltimore Ravens in 2016. After failing to make Baltimore's 53-man roster, Lutz was claimed off waivers by the New Orleans Saints, who were coached by Sean Payton at the time. Lutz went on to spend seven years in New Orleans (missing one season due to injury), converting 165 field goals with a long of 60 yards. His 781 points with the Saints rank second in franchise history, only trailing Pro Football Hall of Famer Morten Andersen (1,318 points).

Broncos tenure: After becoming the coach in Denver in 2023, Payton traded a seventh-round draft pick to New Orleans in exchange for Lutz (the Saints moved forward with Blake Grupe). Lutz went 30-of-34 on field goal attempts in his first season with the Broncos and 31-of-34 last fall, tying Jason Elam's franchise record for the most field goals in a single season. Through two years (34 games) in Denver, Lutz is 89.7% on field goal attempts with a long of 55 yards.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Lock. The Broncos do not have any competition for Lutz on the roster, a sign that the 30-year-old kicker is locked in to retain the job in 2025.
