Minister of State (MoS) for Defence Sanjay Seth arrived in Moscow on Thursday to take part in the 80th anniversary celebrations marking the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II, which will culminate with the Victory Day parade at Red Square on 9 May.
Seth is representing India after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh skipped the event due to the ongoing tensions with Pakistan.
During his visit, he will also hold a bilateral meeting with Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Alexander Fomin.
The Indian Embassy in Moscow shared a post on X confirming the minister's arrival in the Russian capital, where he was received by Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar and Major General Oleg Molessev from the Russian Ministry of Defence.
'He will attend the Victory Day parade on 9 May, have bilateral meeting with Russian Deputy Minister of Defence Alexander Fomin, and participate in other events of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day," the Embassy said in its post.
The Moscow Victory Day Parade is a major military event held every year on May 9th in Red Square as part of Russia's Victory Day celebrations. It is an important and symbolic show of the Russian Armed Forces, with President Vladimir Putin usually attending and giving a speech. The parade is a key part of how Russia honors its military strength and history.
